After a few more days of intensive preparations the voyage begins with a strong SEE wind that continues for two more days. Betty the Whale and her little one assisted that initial foray until they remained too far behind. The days at sea are warm and pleasant, as if the Imperial Navy was successfully escaping the chills of autumn. Flying fish and flocks of porpoises has been sighted. And then, in the night between 21st and 22nd, the wind slows down and dies. Being becalmed lasts into 24th when crews raise dissent, which is then dealt with.

Before the morning of 25th, the wind picks up again. Slowly at first, and 26th is the inspection and inventory day when crews can meet one another and share supplies, but soon benefit is taken from a stronger wind. Some storm clouds are sighted to the north but the fleet outpaces them. Chill hunts them down around Dog 1st, but soon after the course is set by the Amiral to a more southern one. Unfortunately right into the warmer storm that tests the seamanship of all crews. By the morning of the Dog 1st the ships find themselves scattered across a bigger area and it takes all day to put the fleet back into formation and sailing readiness. For whatever reason, the night of Dog 1st is when Yume-do assaults the Explorers' rest, bringing dreams that summon their worst, deeply hidden fears. On Dog 2nd many realise they have entered the seemingly lifeless oceanic desert, so far from any land that even birds could not be sighted and fishnets yield almost nothing. The rising gloom and anxiety, however, are broken by a shock of an encounter with mermaids!

In whatever shape and mindset after the challenge of meeting the ningyo, the fleet sails on. The weather gets warmer, but it brings little comfort. Nutritional shortages start to kick in and some start to complain on their gums and teeth, usually blaming the cook. It is stopped on the 6th for another inventory and inspection, and rationing is tightened to the dissatisfaction of many. Almost three weeks have passed with no sight of any land, and crews become anxious. The state of rising unease and worry spills over with each spotting of avian life proving to be fake. And when the hour could not feel any darker, on the evening of Dog 12th Amaterasu is concealed and the skies turn deep navy blue toward black. In what many see as as wrath of Osano-Wo and Suitengu, the mother of all storms has come...
