As requested, come midday the Tortoise Ran found herself waiting outside a certain coffee shop. She had gotten good use of her acquisition of the Mereanese language, though it was obvious she was a foreigner still, and her freckles seemed to be a superstition to the gaijin as well.

She wore a nicer kimono, having spent so much time in more practical common attire with her overseeing the construction of Lady Sadahako's Temple. It felt nice to dress up again, wearing shades of light green and white, her obi the darkest deep blue and laced with gold. Clan mon prominent on her back, college mon over her right shoulder. Her hair was pinned up with a few accouterments.

She waited for the Dragons to arrive.

Like Ran, Utsusemi had too spent the past time wearing only practical clothing and only a minimum effort spent on hair and makeup, so it felt good to return to the good habits of presenting herself more properly. Her attire was in muted colours of peach and pastel green, with a decorative obi in powder blue, and her long white hair was done up in an elegant style more in touch with the local fashion.

Of course, her yojimbo was close by. "Muhaki-san," she greeted Ran with a cheerful and friendly tone. "Good to see eachother again in more relaxed circumstances."

Kenzo was, in fact, nearby, standing at ready a bit behind and to the side of Utsusemi. He couldn't quite match the formality level of her clothing, but he made up for it by spending extra time on his appearance, it seemed. Not a wrinkle could be seen in his dark green kimono, and even the bit of unruliness that his hair usually displayed was gone, carefully combed out.

At least semi-on-duty, Kenzo didn't speak, at least not at first. He gave Ran a smile and a bow, though, before his eyes went to the shop behind her, his eyes interested.

She bowed to both of them; Utsu first, then Kenzo, and wore a reserved smile. "Always a pleasure to see you as well, Agasha-sama. Mirumoto-sama peaked my interest in visiting this coffee house, I was pleased to hear you would be joining us."

"I feel I haven't been able to spend much time with you outside of work, and while I do appriciate your company during those times quite much, it is always nice to be able to socialise," she nodded respectfully to the Tortoise.

"Shall we? The coffee here is quite nice, but not as good as its sweets."

Kenzo chuckled at that, giving his charge a quick smile. "Indeed, it has a variety of things to appeal to different people."

He looked back to Ran. "Speaking for myself, I'm most excited about the civets. Although I do enjoy the baklava."

"Of course, your company is welcome any time, Lady Agasha-sama; I'm sorry for stealing your yojimbo for my own selfish gains, but it is difficult to find someone so... enamoured with science as he," she says sweetly, and nods to Kenzo appreciatively.

"I await the sight of these mysterious civets with baited breath." She was thrilled to see something new.

"Please, there is no need for apologies. I do not always require my yojimbo to accompany me, and I would hate to draw his attention away from his interests. I am only a mediocre student myself of the scientific arts, so I always appriciate listening to such knowledgeable people such as you two," Utsusemi offered kindly as she led the group inside.

And sure enough, one of the four-legged creatures crossed their paths at a lazy pace as they entered. The lady Agasha was more than happy enough to let the two nature-lovers gush over the animal as she found a vacant place for them to sit.

Kenzo clicked his tongue at Utsu's self-deprecating remark, but didn't say anything further. His expression became more animated as they approached the door; he shot Ran a quick anticipatory grin.

He was not disappointed, as one of the animals wandered across their path almost immediately. "Look!" Kenzo whispered excitedly, and redundantly, since it was impossible to miss. He gave each of his companions a grin, settling on Ran. "Look at the way it moves! It's clearly more in the weasel family, but it moves so like a cat." He didn't sounds quite as excited as the first time Utsu had taken him there, but it was a near thing.

She was listening appreciatively to the Lady Agasha's words, and nodding along... then she stepped ahead, and a furry spotted-and-striped cat-snake walked across their path, and Ran froze in place.

Kenzo was grinning.

Ran looked back and forth from him to the assumed-civet and back and back again. "Civet?" she asked quietly, before leaning over at the waist to get a closer look, and her footsteps began to follow the meow as it wandered.

Kenzo's grin grew as he saw just how fascinated Ran was by the civets. "Yes, that's one of them. There's more of them, too!" He laughed softly as she began to follow it around.

Kenzo leaned over to Utsu, speaking in a low undertone. "I don't remember. Did I do this when you first brought me here?" Actually, he'd tried imitating their noises back to them.

After one more quick grin at Utsu, Kenzo followed Ran, even as she followed the civet.

Utsusemi watched the two of them with a bemused expression, feeling more like she was watching her children encountering such a fascinating animal rather than two adult samurai. Not that she would say it out loud, of course, but it still gave her some sense of happiness of being reminded of her beloved family.

"Yes, you did, Kenzo-san," she chuckled in response to her yojimbo's question. Though she was fine with letting those two marvel at the civets as she placed the orders for coffee and baklava.

Ran continued the follow the civet, cataloguing everything, the way it moved, how it reacted to the surroundings, all of it for later note-taking. She made a round-about way over to where Utsu ended up, and stopped short when she recognized the bottom of the Lady's kimono.

"Oh! Agasha-sama! Excuse me... I have returned." Ran cleared her throat, and set her lips in a straight line, what she called her 'serious face,' that she had learnt while overseeing the construction of the Lady Sadahako's Temple.

She waited for Utsu to sit first.

"Ah." Kenzo had the grace to blush. "Of course I did." He gave her a sheepish smile.

Perhaps it was the repeated exposure, but at the moment, Kenzo found Ran to be more fascinating than the civets. Or at least close. Fifty/fifty. Kenzo did at least maintain the presence of mind not to run into either Ran or Utsu once the group had come full circle.

Kenzo, too, waited for both of his companions to sit, not entirely able to hide the amused expression on his face.

Utsusemi sat down, unable to hold back her amused chuckle. How I wish Tsumugi-chan will be as sweet as Ran when she grows up.

"It is quite alright," she nodded to both of them, a motherly smile on her features. "I suspect the owners must be getting used to the surprise of their guests. 'Tis quite a fascinating animal, is it not? I rather like the pattern on their fur."

Once Utsu was comfortable, Ran followed. Her gaze ticked to Kenzo appreciatively in the movement, as if that might mask it.

It did not.

"It is! I've never seen anything like it, I am excited to try to recreate a picture of it using vocabulary when I return to my abode. Very fascinating," she nodded excitedly. "It's no surprise, I haven't been here before; but Muhaki Bellena-sama did introduce me to the drink of coffee! I'm excited to have some again."

Utsusemi smiled warmly. "Muhaki-san might be joining us. I told her we would be here, and as I wished to speak a little about the temple, I thought it prudent to extend an invitation to her as well... I just hope she finds the time, but I understand if she might be busy, considering the Governor she is advisor to is having a large party. Such might require her attention."

She looked expectantly at Ran. "Are you planning on attending?"

There were many attendants at this hour as people liked their coffee and bakhlava after lunch. Civets were slightly agitated but otherwise all was in order. Like that man in bournous, one table from them, leaning back with his metal cup.

Ran noticed the Berber, but paid him little heed; her attention distracted by the civets, and then drawn back to Utsu.

"Oh yes! I look forward to seeing her if she can attend, she has become a true friend of mine during our time here. Ah, hai, the party... I did have a request to make of you in regards to it, Agasha-sama; if this one can so humbly make such a request of an esteemed lady such as yourself. Your artistry has not gone unnoticed, and while I am a craftsman, this one does not have the fine talent to construct such a mask as deserving at La Enmascarada. This one wonders, if she paid the Lady Agasha a fair trade, would the Lady Agasha create a work of art for this one to wear?"

"Ah," Utsusemi smiled a little shyly at such an unexpected request. To Kenzo, it looked almost like she would refuse out of fear of failing to meet Ran's expectations. "I'm honoured you would ask... really, it is an unexpected surprise."

"I admit... I am still a little bit of a novice when it comes to the local style, but if you have such faith in my talents, I would be honoured to make one for you as well," she bowed her head respectfully to the Someisa. "Did you have an idea in mind for what you would want it to look like, to go in style with your attire?"
