The day had been a long one. But it seemed it wasn't over yet.

Kenzo rubbed his face blearily with one hand. When he'd first come aboard the Kunshu Maru, it had taken him a while to become comfortable on his hammock. Now, he longed for little more. But he had a mission, and he would not, could not, give up on it.

Cautiously, his hands spread, Kenzo approached the entrance to the walled compound, eyeing the guard tower nervously. "Perhaps you'd better say something." He whispered to his companion.

"Alright." Edogawa nodded.

"Konbonwa?" he spoke up to the guard. "Buenas Noches?"

"We speak Rokugani here. Not all of us though. You prefer that?"

The man replied in a weirdly accentuated tongue.

"Do you have business with us, or in the jungle tomorrow?"

"Rokugani would be best, for my friend here." Edogawa motioned to the Dragon. "He is Mirumoto Kenzo. I am Miya Edogawa. We've come regarding another friend who was stung by wasps."

"Oh, thank goodness." Kenzo murmured.

He stepped forward, bowing. "With you, I hope. As Miya-sama has said, one of my clansmen is gravely ill, having been stung by giant bees. We heard that Genta-sama knows how to cure such a thing, and so we've come seeking his aid." He bowed again, low.

"That's bold to say that we know that. One of ours died from their stingers a fortnight ago. But maybe we'll figure something out. Come on in."

The man ushered them in.

"I am Dogen. You are some of those newcomers from the old country, right?"

"Hai. That is correct." The Miya nodded. "Any guidance you might offer on treating our friend would be appreciated."

Kenzo wasn't quite able to hide the flicker of dismay that flashed across his features.

"Thank you." He said wearily, following the man in. "I was surprised to discover others speaking Rokugani, here. Stories should definitely be exchanged." He sighed. "But my first duty is to the injured man. He is the brother of my patron. His sister-in-law is here, too. Any assistance you could give..." He spread his hands.

"Uh-uh. Go into the hunting hall. I'll fetch Genta." The man pointed the central building, then unceremoniously scurried away. He looked more or less like a Rokugani, though his etiquette was non-existent.

Edogawa followed the man's instructions, curious as to what he would find in the hunting hall.

As they waited, Kenzo couldn't help but peer a little curiously at the various animals trophies. His scientific interest was tempered a bit by his preference for seeing animals in the wilderness, not in this sort of format.

Inside, by the hearth, there was a girl in white gown cooking a... stew, probably.

"Buenas tardes, amigos." She said with a smile and rose to get them something to drink after curtsying.

Kenzo might not be able to recognize the words, but words of greeting were clear enough. He gave the girl a smile and a bow. "Good evening." He said politely.

"Buenos tardes, senorita." Edogawa nodded.

She brought them some pineapple juice in wooden mugs, observing them with some curiosity.

"Are you staying for the night?"

Kenzo accepted the mug with a sigh and a faint smile, peering into it curiously. He suddenly wished he'd taken the opportunity to try and learn this language during the long voyage.

"Do you happen to speak Yobanjin?" He asked. It had worked earlier, after all. Otherwise, well, he'd just have to let Edogawa translate. Kenzo sighed again.

"We came to ask Genta for advice." the Miya answered. "Would you like to stay the night, Mirumoto-san?"

Kenzo glanced at Edo. "Oh. Is that what she was asking?" He looked briefly back at the girl, then back to Edo.

"Probably not." He said. "If there is help to be found here, I'd want to deliver it to Sanjuro-sama as soon as possible. If there's not..." He spread his hands, sighing. "Utsusemi-sama should be informed in that case. And we will need to plan our next move." He frowned with concern, his forehead creasing noticeably.

She smiled at Kenzo apologetically, not giving in to her curiosity too much.

"I am Agata. Please tell your friend I recognise his language as one of those the Unicorn use, but I cannot speak it." She acknowledged his words with a nod, and then Kenzo's no with another, understanding the intent clear enough. "I'd better get back to cooking."

"She seems to only speak Merenaese." he explained to the Dragon. "Her name is Agata. She is returning to her cooking."
