Hikari's knowledge indicated that the best time oppose the Spirits was in full gaze of Lady Sun, so it was midday when preparations picked up...

  • Steps can be repeated if failed, but each participant can take only the number of steps equal to their Earth x2 before they get Fatigued. For each attempt later they take 1k1 explosive exhaustion damage. Rolls can be assisted, but it consumes one action slot of all involved.
  • Each effective Raise on a roll gives a FR on the next roll in the logical sequence.
  • Regular success is enough; failure means that the step has failed and needs to be repeated.

  • At any point (even after the Orochi comes into play) the event can be redeemed if Hikari loudly calls for Chishiru to give their relationship a second chance, confessing she'll try to make it work on some level. It's a Awareness/Sincerity roll vs. TN15, and can be a lie. The consequences of this will be role-played later.
  • The difficulty for actions on the First Ward are TN15, and then increase by 5 with each next one, the last having it at TN30. This is because the mujina turn their efforts to eleven as the exorcists become more and more successful. This only applies to Step rolls, not to Importuning or activating Kata, Techniques etc. For Spellcasting TNs the higher apples - based on Steps or on RAW TN, before scarcity Raises (which apply anyway).
  • All Spells with Ward keyword for a given shugenja count as wards for the event. If the shugenja cannot cast a ward for whatever reason, and cannot importune it (by normal mechanics of Importuning), or the person is not a shugenja, it can be improvised by Intelligence/Spellcraft with TN+10 on top of the difficulty of establishing the ward appropriate for the step. If an improvised ward has to be of any particular element, a Raise has to be called on top of that for no effect.
  • If each ward is of a different element and the event is a success, the event will result in a greater victory.
  • Kami scarcity rules apply, also to Importune mechanics.
  • Yajinden should not be planned; he will involve himself if and when he wishes.

  • #6. The Mujina-Grilling Ritual. Can only be done once all four wards are in place. It does not follow Step rules. It's a Cooperative Intelligence/Spellcraft Roll vs. TN60, with each spell slot expended by any participant counting as a FR on a single attempt. Can be repeated without the need to reestablish wards.

Hikari's Idea That May Work (tm).

[You can roleplay throughout the event, matching interactions and rolls. Flailing, fuming and despairing in the basecamp as others run with the barricades is legit.]

Once the base camp was secured, Ran began building. She put blinders on and only focused on what she needed to do, here and now - what she could do to help. She put her hands to good work, grabbing what she could, tying pieces together for stabilization, and securing the load so it could be carried but large enough to protect samurai from the incoming onslaught of goo.

"One barricade!" she called out as her handiwork was ready, and she set to work on the second.

"Got it!" Edogawa picked up the barricade and raced to the intended position. He zipped back and forth, weaving around the hazards of the beach and attacks from the castle. Soon, the barricade was in place.

While the engineers went to work on the barricade, Hikari offered a quick prayer to the kami, strengthening her mental faculties.

Then she ran over to the barricade... fell on her face halfway there... making it on the second run, and once more called upon the kami... succesfully placing down a ward.

Has Edogawa was running with the first barricade, Susumu had stripped himself from his armor and shirt to be ready for his part. Still flexing as the second barricade got finished, he did not make Ran wait for long before he picked it up and dashed towards the waters. Once in his training kicked in and effortlessly brought his charge into position.

"Third barricade! Next!" Ran had exhausted the debris and etc she had in her vicinity - she was done her part of making barricades, they all held true. She hoped the next part would go off brilliantly as well. Her gaze kept tracking back to Seppun Hikari-sama, despite the chaos on the beach.

Hikari bobbed and weaved to the next ward site; made a quick prayer entreating the kami, and then placed down the second ward. The rest would be up to her yoriki, who was more skilled in the art of warding.
