The Yogo stepped forward in the sand without her mask on. She was immediately met with a blob of goo to the face. Great. The woman put her mask back on and peered for another opening, one that did not exist.

Seeing her subordinate unable to move forward, Hikari tried to slog through and made it through to the third barrier. Taking longer than she had previously, she once more called upon the kami and finally managed to place down a third ward...

...but that was it. There was no moving forward again after that. No reasonable expectation that she could pull off the 4th ward.

"Will someone deliver that barricade for me to the spot?" Yajiden asked idly, sighing.

Susumu had swam back to the camp without hassle and taken the third barricade and repeated the delivery for the second emplacement with ease but the return was catastrophic and one of the gunk balls hit him before he could dive away.

Thankfully the sea water had washed most of what had hit him but his chest and shoulders were still oily when he came to take the last barricade. (4 actions reached)

Fortification in hand, he eyed the last goal and got himself ready. He breathed deeply and dove into the water, vanishing briefly only to resurface near the final position, firmly putting the barricade in place.

His lungs hurt but got himself ready to return once the ward was cast.

Yajinden nodded to Susumu and swirled into the beach. Using mizu-do techniques he deftly passed through raining goo.

LM8. Reach the 4th barricade. TN30. VP. Ref/Def.: 9d10o10k6 43

Still whirling like an autumn wind playing with leaves, he scattered the loose sand and then conjured a war of pure elemental air onto the sand.

LM8. Symbol of Air. TN40 (After two mandatory raises).: 10d10o10k6 59

And with the same grace he returned.

LM8. Leave the 4th barricade. TN30. VP. Ref/Def.: 9d10o10k6 51

Smoothing out his kimono with a small chuckle, he tilted his head at their wasted and battered apparitions.

"I believe your plan may work, Seppun-san. Shall we proceed to the ritual?"

Hikari ran back across the beach, but got hit by whatever the spirits were throwing at them once or twice. After getting back up though, she managed to make it across and with the help of the other two shugenja present began the final stretch of the ritual...

...with great success.

Reflexes/Defense, TN41 (nicked, sakkkau, fatigued): 5d10o10k3 34
Fatigue Damage: 1d10o10k1 9
Intelligence/Spellcraft, Mental Quickness, Nicked+3TN, Fatigued+5TN, Sakkaku+3TN, 7 total spell slots expended (7FR to lower TN, 8 if mental quickness counts), TN36 (or TN31): 10d10o10k5+11 75 (TN was actually 2 higher due to the fact i forgot the running roll+fatigue damage)
Final Fatigue Damage: 1d10o10k1 9

I think that's a pass; Hikari has 1 wound into Injured.

When magical energies connected and crossed, a great pillar of elemental fire rose all along the castle walls. Like a tornado, it whirled ever neater. Mujina cackles soon went silent, and then changed into terrible screams as magical fire reaching their planar existence was incinerating them in droves. They soon dropped illusion and began to jump ship, straight into the ocean, not caring about invisibility any more. The mighty orochi rose into the column from the waves in a parallel pillar, much higher than the elemental maelstrom, but as it looked like it might collapse into the waves to douse the column with a tsunami... it fell back and started to submerge.

Hikari could feel the joy of the Fire Kami. It was all new to them, and interesting, to revel in destruction in a foreign place. Drawn from dispersed ancient pockets of lava deep beneath them, closed off when the world had been young, never in this place had they amassed together so dense in a conflagration. They would have joyfully consumed Yamato Maru if it had not been protected by the air bubble Yajinden had inserted into the warding ritual, but to tear down the tendrils of Sakkaku felt fantastic. It would take quite a time for the maelstrom to die down but their agitation didn't dissipate entirely. As the column collapsed, revealing the damaged vessel inside, a rumble crossed the beach from deep beneath as lava was stirred, and mud geysers more to the north shot high, raining ono the nearby swaths of the jungle. For a moment it felt like they exchanged one calamity for another, but it thankfully didn't repeat itself. Still, the joy of elemental awakening was accompanied with a foreboding feeling that Mount Kappa might not longer be truly extinct, and its slumber not a given.

[From this event on, in the Interior and in the Southern Beaches Fire Spells don't suffer from kami scarcity; personalised rewards will follow, you can role-play now.]

Once everything was calm again, Edogawa emerged from the safety of the base he had constructed.

"Well done, mina-sana." he offered congratulations as he made his way directly towards the Yamato Maru. He was assessing the damage and was already plotting tepairs and improvements.

Quote:
Hikari has a one-time, no-repeat reward choice:
  • Friendly Kami (Fire) + Elemental Imbalance (Fire)
  • Elemental Blessing (Fire)
  • Friend of the Elements (Fire)

Until the end of the game she can buy off Curse of Sakkaku without tax, and her rank of Infamy converts into a rank of Notoriety. (Crazy Fire Witch Will Kill Us All!)

All others receive 2 xp to expend on skills they used during the event.

Tension escalates by -0.5 as the locals consider the display as proof that Rokugani are unhinged and destruction-happy. All participants have corresponding VIP gains and Notoriety rise.

Sakkaku infestation of the Southern Beaches is ended; Yamato Maru can be subjected to repairs.

Yajinden looked toward the mud bursts somewhat warily, but then turned and bowed to Hikari.

"Congratulations, Seppun-san. Hantei-no-kimi will receive a report about your accomplishment."

Hikari was obviously exhausted, but she still managed to offer a bow to Yajinden.

"I just wish it didn't have to come to this, Asahina-sama."

Susumu observed the display with awe

''I'll admit I don't see that everyday...'' he bowed to Hiraki ''Well done Seppun-sama!''

Hikari sat down in the sand with a friendly wave toward Susumu that dismissed her own part in the proceedings. "It was a group effort," she said once she butt-down on the sand, her hand already going for one of the statuette-containers at her side to retrieve a snack.

"Neither of us wanted what happened, but it has been rectified today. And Bon is fast-approaching, it will be a good time to honour our departed. This time maybe inland." Yajinden looked at Edogawa. "Miya-san, I believe we need to inspect the damage."

"Fix it and she's yours, Miya-san. I will defray necessary means." Yajinden nodded, but also excused himself from the rest of the company to go assess how much effort and resources was truly needed.

Susumu could not help but notice the statuette snack containers

''Interesting devices Seppun-sama. Have you tried Little Aqahba's sweets?''
