There wouldn't be any announcements or speeches. Miya Odorihime cautiously observed as her guests started flocking in. She would start meandering across the estates in due time. Trays and tables with refined snacks and expensive beverages were strategically positioned all across the Orange Blossom garden for anyone to casually partake in them. The animals were either curious or hid in their resting spots to avoid this many people. The attendees are cautioned not to feed them.

A young Lion officer lingered near the refreshments table, dressed in his best kimono and attempting to make polite conversation with other samurai. He smiled easily and spoke animatedly of recent events. His eyes especially lit up when talking about the impressive construction of the huge new ships for the great expedition to come.

The duelist paced the party keeping an open ear for anything deserving her attention. As her sensei had trained her to approach such a social gathering.

Hikari was present, making small talk about this and that... with a particularly long stretch of time during which she in very animated fashion talked on and on about martial arts techniques.

Bellena too was present. Despite her unusual appearance she was fairly forgettable with all the happenings of the day.

Edogawa hated these gatherings. He had never been a fan of courtly interaction and garden parties usually followed the same pomp and circumstance of most courts, with a little less of the structure. There was still gossip and politics and posturing.

He understood how to navigate some of that. He had already participate4d in some idle gossip. He didn't even know who or what they were talking about, but the others in the conversation seemed pleased.

Parties should be much more fun. At least there was some fine sake available. Cup in hand, the Miya looked around for another conversation to join.

The red priestess was not a wealthy woman. Her kimono was the nicest one she had available, a plain black and red one with the only flair afforded being the Mons tied to her. She had, at least, put on some perfume and cleaned her appearance up with makeup.

I will never understand matchmakers. What purpose is there in inviting someone of my sort to this gathering?

She kept her fan at hand. It was her best tool for a battlefield such as this.

"Well, isn't it obvious what happened to the missing Crab legion?" Keiji was heard to say. "Everyone knows the Kitsune Mori is haunted. Why, I bet they stepped through a spirit portal in the woods somewhere, and the whole legion ended up in eastern Spiritsylvania. And poof! They were gone, never to return."

Noticing Hikari nearby, the Lion turned to her for support. "Isn't that right, Seppun-sama? You're a Jade Magistrate, you know about these things, right?"

One didn't simply pass up an invitation from the Imperial matchmaker, even if you really wanted to. So eventually Yasuhiro arrived, dressed in his nicest kimono, though even then it was far less elegant then many others.

The chilly aura around him seemed to prevent most people from approaching him, so he drifted through the party eating snacks and drinking sake. Though it seemed like he managed to comment on a few of the conversations happening, before the others involved drifter away to avoid him.

Anzai was in his element as he entered. He had selected thr extravagant kimono with the black obi, the memorial sash for his mother. His face in his typical mask, eyes resplendent in the attention drawn to his evil eye by the painted on stinger.

Fan extended, his mischevious smile showing. Like a true Scorpion, ready to strike.

There was no way Suihime would miss this, even if it wasn't required. She couldn't miss her own mothers garden party. Dressed up in her finest, she moved like the Imperial princess she was, joining in conversations where invited and remaining the picture of elegance that she always is.

And another imperial arrives at the Matchmaker's party. Hinami, the youngest daughter of the Seppun daimyo arrives in full jūnihitoe, her best clothes. Her face was painted white and she moved like she was a princess. Indeed she was almost one. Every one of her movements was done in a way to inspire awe, create an impression and to clearly show the superiority of the Imperial families.

Even if she was married and had been so for some time, with a couple of kids to show for it too, there was no way Utsusemi would pass up the occassion of attending a social affair like this. Dressed in her most extravagant outfit, a beautifully detailed kosode over a pale yellow kimono, the Lady of the Golden Moon's Words was in her element.

There was another in the corner of the gardens reserved for those generally avoided. Which was something Yasuhiro at least found rather odd. He was usually on his own in such places, though as the woman was a gaijin he could understand why she was here.

"Good afternoon Tortoise-san." He offered with a polite bow, unsure if the woman would even want to speak.

She bowed in return after finding a mon on his clothing, "Good afternoon Matsu-san. Interesting little party here neh?"

Gusai Ryoshida dressed up for the party in sargasso green, laced with gold. Even his eyepatch was a golden disc. He wasn't talking much save for exchanging some brief words with Odorihime. His focus was on regarding the bachelorettes, but with just one eye active it was hard to tell toward whom he was actually looking.

Similarly, Muhaki Zazu took a strategic spot by the buffet and paid attention to what was happening from over a platter of foodstuffs that was quickly losing content.

The Snow Kitten . . . or Lynx of the Night depending on time of day, was also present. Beginning his circulation with pointless gossip masquerading as the news of the times, he planned something more flirtatious for later.

"Yes." Interesting was one word for it, really though he was just happy to have survived. "Is it perhaps your first time attending a party like this Tortoise-san?" Yasuhiro thought it might be the case, as out of place as she looked. He could of course be wrong though.

Hinami started making a conversation about the Emerald Champion's crackdown against Opium with several people. Unbeknownst to most, Hinami knew quite a bit of the production of that drug. She was involved in several inspections around the River of Gold as a member of the Department of Oversight and she was part of many decommissions raids of shipments of the ilegal narcotic. She argumented that the recent events in Kitsune Mori will not harm in any way the campaign against the sustance because the Emerald Champion is acting according to the imperial law. Whatever were the circumstances, Doji Shioden, is blameless and his move against criminals and drug dealers is the correct path and only path.

Then someone -what was his name again?- entered -her- conversation, argumenting the contrary saying that the Emerald champion's campaign would be hurt as he would lack the brilliance of his lieutenant and blah blah blah... she was not paying attention to his arguments, rather to his way of speaking.

Hinami could not allow this upstart nobody to go against -her- arguments. She was too proud to let that slight and she quickly found a way to destroy his opponent. It would seem that this -whomever he was- was not very knowgeable about the intricacies, complexity and richness of high rokugani, so the young Seppun, like a well trained Otomo courtier, destroyed her oponent. Hinami began making fun of this man, distorting his words with other meanings coming from High Rokugani, mocking him, almost bullying him. It was so effective that the man went silent, completely humilliated by the Seppun girl. But perhaps it was a bit too much, perhaps her attitude was too much...
