What could have brought you all the way out here?

Haruka knew there were few things that could have motivated Tsugiko to this degree. There was, however, a person who could.

Deep down, she felt guilt for indulging that particular fixation of Tsugiko's, yet in these times it was all the other woman had. Who was she to deny Tsugiko that solace, even if it was false?

With that in mind, she pressed onward.

With Haruka's persistence, the jungle overgrowth finally gave way to a more rocky environment of a gorge opening cutting into the side of the mountain. The stream had been working thousands of years to cut this deep into the limestone, leaving a varied record of geological history above, with ledges and concavities deeper in it. There might or might not have been something on the ledge deeper into it...

It was a shame Haruka was not a scholar, given the wealth of knowledge that could be had by studying the local plants and rocks.

But she was on a mission and only with her best guess of where Tsugiko was to guide her, moved onward to investigate the ledge further.

Judging by the pattern on the kimono of the bundle lying there it was quite likely it was Tsugiko. She was not moving.

"Tsugiko-sama!" Haruka called out, moving to check on the hopefully-only-unconscious Crane, buoyed that her searching had not been for naught.

It required a short climb to get to Tsugiko; she, however, did not reply.

Panic was unseemly, so Haruka rationalized it as concern that sped her steps over to Tsugiko. The climb would be as nothing to get to her.

It was too late when she noticed a large, tiger-like humanoid stepping out of the shadow and a ring of steel indicating the closing of the invisible cage behind her.

"What is this! What are you? Some kind of demon!" Haruka demanded, not understanding what the tiger-man was saying. Language barriers were likely the least of concerns at the moment, as Haruka processed that there was indeed a tiger-man-thing there and an unconscious Tsugiko that needed defending.

She interposed herself betwee the rakshasa and Tsugiko, not fully appreciating being entrapped in an invisible cage as yet.

"Talk to me more, womanling. I keenly want to have a grasp of the patterns of your rhythmic speech. Very unusual."

The rakshasa walked by the cage, drawing upon Tsugiko's essence to fuel his enchantment.

[Influence Haruka to keep talking, a lot; Haruka may resist with Willpower. If she succeeds, Adisabah will abuse Tsugiko's life more to try again.]

(Fail)

Haruka finally registered alarm at the tiger-demon's presence and its actions, as it must be the one keeping Tsugiko laid low in this manner.

"Cease your deviltry at once, foul gaijin beast! Crawl back to whatever foreign hell spawned you and trouble us no further!"

Rakshasa contemplated the language more than the message.

"I think not. Let's play a game."

That took Haruka aback. But then again, this was some demon and of course demons all spoke proper, civilized tongues aside from their own blasphemous language.

Or at least were subtitled in it.

She scowled in defiance at the rakshasa and moved to check on Tsugiko. "A game? What sort of foul folly would a creature such as you consider an amusement? And what makes you think we would agree to participate in such a thing?"

"The game needs not your agreement." Rakshasa said patiently, stretching. "Expect cruel from Adisabah the Cruel. Many ends is cruel death. One of you will die anyway."

"No deaths are cruel, demon." Haruka shot back defiantly. "Only cruel killers. You have not either mine or Tsugiko-sama's consent for this twisted amusement of yours, not that it will stop you. What will you do?"

"I am no Sparrow." Haruka groused, as if some foreign demon would know the significance of naming that yam-besotted clan of dirt farmers. Her pride was sticking it to her, but she saw Tsugiko in the corner of her vision and remembered the demon's threats to harm her.

"But for her sake...Fine. What stories would interest you?"

"All of them. We have the time."

[Fade to Stories unless you want to post some storytelling; trying to bring this closer to resolution.]

Adisabah listened until he stole Haruka's consciousness when Yajinden was approaching to bring Tsugiko back to shape. He fell into the trap, as did Jama and Suru when they were passing through the area on their usual nocturnal escapade to the East Port. Adisabah be-slumbered them too, then reached out to the tendrils of the Spirit Realms engulfing the island and weave a bridge to his own blighted pocket plane...

...where they all awakened in sumptuous beds in a beautiful palace rivalling that of a Maharaja. Adisabah, in his uncompacted form of a 4-metres-high man-tiger, in a fancy red fez and with a pipe, was sitting by the pond.

Image

"Welcome to my estates, humanlings. Tormenting you brings me much joy, so I've decided to continue doing this unto eternity. Or whenever I get bored."

He paused.

"The only escape from here is through someone's death. If you act together for it you die. If only that princeling escapes, he dies and the others can leave. If someone else escapes, all die who're left behind. If you try to kill each other or try to kill me, you all die. Enjoy your stay."

[Adisabah's Palace is beyond time. Haruka can have threads with any of the NPCs here as much as she wants before the matter of death is resolved. The outcome is that all escape by EM12 except Haruka or Tsugiko.]
