"The wrathful power of the Vengeful and Merciless Sea reaches beyond the depths." Agata nodded sagely, and grimly. Then smirked to dispel the pout. "You're in need to be helped, Senor Mattaxu-" She tried Aberri pronunciation, making an effort. It was clear she meant no disrespect. "-and Kharsis tells us to stand by those whose goals are noble and hearts are pure. Like a good shepherd, you care for your flock to the last lamb. How can hunting down a wild pig be more important? They're not going anywhere."

Yasuhiro nodded along at her point, whatever false heathen religion she followed, she at least knew a little bit about Suitengu's power. "Much Better." The Lion offered with a small smile as she retried his name, it wasn't correct, but she was sadly cursed with a gaijin birth, so he would not hope for perfection.

The talk then switched to some peasant topic he really didn't understand, something about taking care of animals? Yasuhiro had no idea what it had to do with finding his crew, but he nodded polietly regardless. She was trying to be helpful after all. What's she saying? I can't understand all this gibberish she's speaking. You didn't promise her a healthy son or something did you Yasuhiro!?

"No, Grandmother." He offered in Rokugani, before switching back to the foreign tongue. "Why you have only one name? Are you Ronin?"

"If that is your word for an orphan, Senor. Or just an unwanted child, I really don't know. Padre Alvaro found me an infant on the steps to the church." She said without malice, just a bit of melancholy, as she was leading them out of the peat bog. "My name simply means 'good' in the language of ancient Radians. Or so Padre says. He gave it to me, so he probably knows best on that subject."

"It is Warrior without Lord." He offered in way of explanation. "It is shameful position, but one where person can rise." He continued, feeling a further explanation was likely needed. The mention of orphans, caused him to furrow his brow, Gaijin ways seemed peculiar.

"There is shame in abandoning child. No shame in being abandoned."
The young man murmured at last. "Being a monk is a honorable path. Worthy of respect." Raised by the church, which he recalled was a gaijin word for monastery, he assumed she had taken on that path.

"A nun? Me?" She chuckled, thinking. "I suppose it is like that, Senor. This is where my heart goes." She looked back at him. "And I carry no shame other than for my own sins, before Kharsis." She bit her lip, looking at him. "You are very kind, Senor. You have compassion in you."

Yasuhiro was rather pleased with himself, having figured out the young woman's station in life he now understood how to address her. A nun was beneath him in the order, but still required respect. Even if the Kami she venerated was a heathen one.

He turned his eyes towards her for a moment, his tone polite, perhaps explanatory. "Compassion. Jin. Is one of seven pieces of Bushido, Samurai without compassion, are without honor.

"When she went ashore she saw a great crowd, and she had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And she began to teach them many things." The girl obviously quoted something, facing him.

She fully stopped to regard him with exaltation coming from within. "Please tell me more about the virtues of you and your people."

Apparently the talk of sheep and shepherds had some religious meaning, though the Lion was unsure how. It seemed rather insulting to refer to a man as a sheep after all. Even eta weren't referred to with such a derogatory term. Still, monks deserved respect, so he nodded his head a few times. "Is that words of Karsist?" He asked, politely before answering her own question.

"Bushido is the path of the Warrior, as given by Akodo-no-Kami. All Samurai walk this path, for to stray is to perish." There was a small pause as he translated all the terms in his head. "It has seven pieces, Compassion, Jin. Courage, Yu. Courtesy, Rei. Duty, Chugo. Honestly, Gi. Honor, Meyo. Then finally Sincerity, Makoto. These we must follow every day we live."

She nodded, then tapped her temple, trying to recall relevant phrases. One by one, she piously uttered them.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for Kharsis goes with you; She will never leave you nor forsake you."

"Let your speech always be courteous, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person."

"He who keeps the duty keeps his soul, But he who is careless of conduct will die."

"Kharsis reproofs lying lips, but she delights in people who are honest and trustworthy."

"Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things."

"For we are not like many, peddling the word of Heaven, but as from sincerity we speak in Kharsis under their gaze."

It was similar, but in several ways terribly wrong... Or at least that's how Yasuhiro thought of it. It lacked a soul perhaps? There was also a mention of sin. "Desire is Sin." He offered softly. "As is Fear and Regret."

Pausing a moment more he continued, quoting as close to Akodo's leadership as he could manage.

"A Samurai has Compassion, he helps fellow man. If no man to help, he finds one who needs help."

"A Samurai must have Courage. It is risk, is is dangerous, it is living fully, not blindly. Courage is smart and strong. Instead of fear respect and caution."

"Samurai are not cruel. A Samurai is courteous even to enemies, do not be respected only for strength, but dealings with others too."

"For Samurai, to do 'thing', or say 'thing' is to own 'thing'. Be responsible for it and and bad that follows. Must be very loyal to those in his care, and remain very true to those he takes care of."

"Samurai is honest in all dealings. Believe in justice, not by others, bur from you. There is no gray in honesty and Justice. Only right and wrong."

"A samurai has one judge for honor, that is him. What you do and how you do them are mirror of oneself, you can not hide from oneself."

"When samurai say he does a thing, he does it. Let no thing get in the way. No promises, no saying words, speaking has sent action into doing. speaking and doing are same thing."

Nothing he said made her voice disagreement, merely deeper thought. As if her sense of right and wrong had no continuity in judgement. She led them forth as she thought through his words. The environment changed into sparser tropical one, with palms dominating and the hum of the sea audible.

"In her boundless mercy Kharsis redeems sins for all those who repent and show genuine contrition so they can still bring goodness into the world above the evils they have committed."

It was a interesting thought process, though not one he understood, if one relied on a deity so much, how was one supposed to achieve their destiny.

"Each soul has... task it is meant for. If one does not achieve task, one will be reborn. During life one accumulates
Kharma. From sin and not sin. When dead, Emma-O-no-Kami assigns place for rebirth, could be higher, could be lower. One's sin and not sins determines place, higher or lower in the order."

"One's actions are only way to atone for sin."

"Kharsis teaches us that there is only one life in this world, and only one rebirth in the next. This life is all we have to trace our path between good and evil."

She smiled gracefully with that pinch of exaltation that had been accompanying their conversation.

"And to do so we cannot stay at home, but need to brave the dark valleys of this world."

"It is not like this for Samurai. My honored grandmother who watches me, has told me this from her place of honor in Yomi." There was no doubt in his voice, merely fact. Or at least what he interrupted as such.

His interest was piqued as she mentioned the dark valleys of the world, and he looked down at her a curious expression on his features. "Are you explorer as well as Nun?"

"We have saints who manifest." She admitted, then tilted her head. "I am a huntress and a guide through inland. Most move between ports by sea, but sometimes going by foot is needed. There are some places on the slopes of Mount Kappa best avoided."

"What means Saint and manyfest?" He asked somewhat curious. The term had never come up in his lessons of the language.

"Places with danger?" He asked as he glanced around, wondering if he might have wandered into one. There was no hint of worry in his eyes, more curiosity then anything. "What danger?"

"The holy women and men who died appearing to us, bringing revelations, miracles and strengthening our faith. It doesn't happen often but Padre Alvaro says it happens if piety and devotion to Kharsis fill your heart and mercy drives your deeds." She looked around. "We're safe here, close to the Pools, and away from the bog. But some wildlife is dangerous, and the ground can be treacherous. In the north, mists cover the cliffs most of the day, and people passing there sometimes get lost in them and fall to their deaths."

It sounded... Complicated, at least from what he could understand it. "Grandmother is no saint, but Samurai who filled destiny. She worry what we speak of as she does not speak this tongue." Which was true, his grandmother was huffing a bit. "We speak on religious matters." He offered to his grandmother. "She is Nun of foreign god."

Hmph, as long as she doesn't want to bear your children, I guess it's okay you talk. You should probably feed her while you are at it, she's a bit scrawny. Yasuhiro paused a moment before nodding. "She also says you should eat more."

"I eat what I feel I must. I share the rest. Our bodies will turn to dust but the goodness we leave in the world will prevail." She smirked curiously when he started talking to himself. He knew a man like this, one who Padre Alvaro kept at the shelter. He then explained to her that hearing voices is not necessarily a sign of a mind claimed by the Vengeful Sea, but a test one receives from Kharsis. "But I will honour your advice and eat more heartily tonight."

"You guide people, so should eat your fill. Others need your strength, you must care for it, polish it. Bishamon looks kindly on people who do." He offered as way of further advice. "So it is good you take advice."

With that said, and a pleased smile on his lips from having helped enlighten the Gaijin at least a little bit, he turned back towards the other topic. "What wild life is danger? Men pigs? Any others?"
