Wataru took a moment to rest from the woodwork, and allowed himself to wander around the shrine area. He could hear the strange sounds of the language of the locals. He had tried reading about the language, but reading and understanding was not the same, so all he could do was pass by and salute in their local ways, while smiling.

The samurai reached the Shrine to Agasha Kasuga, and wasn't sure what to make out of it. It seemed like a proper shrine, although almost abandoned. He was used to the Phoenix shrines, bubbling with monks coming and going everywhere, caring for the structure and for the people in the place, but here it was practically the opposite. The place was full of debris, and only locals seemed to hang out there, just chatting and laughing as they told stories. Such odd place.

Wataru went deeper into the shrine, he could feel his ancestors pushing him to go in, willing him to improve that place somehow. Yet for now all he could do was look for the abbot, or just any monk.

Instead, there was just one old geezer washing his clothes in dirty bayswater. It was probably getting more soiled because of it but the old man didn't seem to be noticing. He whistled some jolly shanties in Merenaese.

Wataru was surprised that nobody was performing the rituals in the Shrine, or that they even cared. And not only that but no monks were present. Could he even change the fact? Would anyone care? At least the Fortunes would, and even though magic was forbidden, serving the Kami was not, of course this duty should be carried on by one of those new Tortoise family members, created to serve the fortune Someisa.

He looked at the old man taking care of the clothes in the murky water, just not even caring that it was not washing at all. Now that's an odd thing to do. The samurai instead just dedicated himself in taking care of the temple. Since he was no saint man, he did not enter the Honden, where the Fortunes were, and instead started by clearing up the chōzuya. It was important to have the purification area clean if you were to enter the temple properly.

After cleaning, the samurai performed the rituals for cleansing the chōzuya, rituals he knew from his time visiting the Phoenix temples.

Cleansing the chōzuya. Theology/Int, FR Asako, TN ?: 27 - I'd say the Great Orokos no kami wants the Temple cleansed :P
