The spaciousness of the estates belonging to the hereditary governors of the West Port is in stark contrast to the cramped livelihood of the main city. The premised proper are not too large, however. It is the cordon of gardens sprawling all around, more to the back than to the front like an egg around its yolk, that create the splendour.

The gardens are both like and unlike Rokugani ones. bearing the marks of gardeners of different backgrounds. There is not much in the way of recreating nature, there are no bridges or pavilions or stone forms. All around, it is flowers and flowering trees, plus one large pond for the turtles. The area was torn from the jungle with fire and hatchet and perhaps someone made it a point for what comes after to resemble what was before to little extent. The flower genuses are both local and foreign, fields of roses siding swaths of mums and a grove of orchids, and many more. As such, the grounds are always abuzz because of hordes of pollinating insects. It is hard to tell whether practical considerations were behind it but one thing is certain: the sweet, intoxicating scent of blossoms in the land of eternal summer does fend off the odours of the port. The humidity is still high, however, so strolling these gardens does not exactly amount to a refreshing experience to someone unused to the climate.

Near the pond of turtles dear a solitary shrine, beautiful and fairly traditional but concise, dedicated to Lord Muhaki. No religious practices are conducted in it, and it is being cleaned by the gardeners as any other site across the garden grounds, but the serenity of the place is protected and respected. The interior features his gilded and painted effigy and little else. There is no altar or an incense brazier even though incenses are being used selectively across the gardens to discourage insects from claiming some spots.

On the outside, the residence of the Governoress looks rather Rokugani even if some architectural proportions are not faithfully respected. It is the arrangements of the interior that testify to the foreign tastes of the occupant. While Yubari has a good taste in relation to selecting room colours, furniture and other furnishings, the paintings lining up the halls are not top notch... mostly just kitch. Maybe they are an inherited feature, not an exercise in poor taste.
