"Hmmm." Kenzo said, looking first at the glasses, then back to his companions. "A good assessment, Gusai-sama. I think perhaps we should go light to dark, if you don't mind me breaking the tie."

Kenzo, as the lowest ranking individual, felt that it was his responsibility to do the serving. He poured a small glass of the palest liquid for Susumu. He gave Yasu an inquisitive look as he selected another glass, confirming that he should go ahead.

The order decided the Lion placed aside the glass of the darker drink, instead picking up the light colored wine.

Picking it up he sniffed it Inquisitivly, before slightly wrinkling his nose. "It reminds me of the smell of some perfumes." He murmured, mostly to himself before taking a sip.

''It is fermented grape...so that explains the fruity aroma''

Susumu picked up his glass and raised it

''To new discoveries!''

Kenzo, too, had been carefully smelling the wine, moving the glass around beneath his nose. At the toast, though, he raised the glass with a smile. "To new discoveries!"

He took a sip, skeptical eyebrows going up as he did. "Hmmm." He said swallowing. "That's... hmmm." He shrugged. "I think it's rather enjoyable, actually. One can taste the fruit underneath the alcohol. A little sweet. Interesting."

"New discoveries." The Matsu fell in line with the others, as they toasted. Bringing the glass to his lips a few moments later to take a sip.

"It's interesting." He offered after a moment. "Much better then that Coughfee stuff I tried the other day."

''Some coffee can taste bitter'' he admit ''But the taste of this wine is indeed quite good.''

''While we are here I would like to take the opportunity to thank you both for your work on the Walrus earlier today.''

Bitter was one word for it. Disgusting was more along the Lions point of view on the matter. "I was merely doing my duty Gusai-sama, you need not thank me."

"Though I'm curious why you didn't use your own first mate for the sailing. As I insisted earlier it's not a position im worthy of."

Kenzo swirled the liquid around his tongue a bit more before speaking. "Thank you, Captain. I was honored to be invited, really. After all, exploration is our primary goal, isn't it?"

Sipping some more wine he answered the lion first

''My reason is simple really, Matsu-sam: I wished to observe your skill for my own. You might have been demoted but to me that does not mean you are stuck were your are now. Your skill might be needed in the future.''

He then turned to the dragon

''That should indeed be the case''

Kenzo lifted his glass with a smile. "I'm glad to hear it, captain. With the Imperial Explorers being drawn from so many groups, one worries that this sort of thing could become distressingly political. It's better when those things are kept separate, I feel." His lips twisted. "To the extent that it's possible to do so." He took another sip of the wine.

Sadly politics were already deeply ingrained in the explorers, you could see it in the various allies and enemies people made. "I don't believe I will ever serve as a first mate again, Gusai-sama. Though I can understand your sentiments. I don't believe it to be a post that I am made for." Of course his own captain would disagree.

"I think we all know politics have more to do in this group then actually exploring does." Yasuhiro commented as he took a sip of his cup.

Kenzo's lips twisted. "It is a shame to hear that. At my level, I think one doesn't see quite the whole picture. Perhaps your rank means you are exposed to more of the politics of it than I am, Matsu-sama." He bowed.

He swirled the wine in his glass a little. "Still, that means that what we did today was all the more important, doesn't it?"

Susumu sighed

''Matsu-san is right. The rebirth of the explorers are born from a political action and we cannot escape that fact.''

He sipped

''For better or for ill.''

"Its something we will all have to work with." He agreed with a nod. "Much like today, we are all explorers, and I mean no offense when I say this."

"But how many of us do you imagine could of made that climb today on our own?" He asked as he looked around the room. "For a group of explorers isn't the number of courtiers rather large?"

"Well... hmmm." Kenzo said, frowning. "That is a good point." His lips twisted. "Although you'd be surprised at how willing some of them are to make the attempt." Although, he wasn't about to share just how covered in mud Utsusemi had gotten...

"Bringing so many courtiers rather suggests that it was expected that their skills would be useful, doesn't it?" He said, frowning thoughtfully.

''Or many saw the opportunities this voyage offered in terms of...''

He cut his sentence and waved a hand before sipping some more wine

''At least I know there are a few of us who are really interested in exploration.''

"Though it seems like those that are interested might be looking for bushi to come along with them. "Muhaki Bellena-san reported that she was attacked by a overly large snake on a expedition for example."

He nodded towards the mantis. "I've been wanting to do more, but it's been difficult to find a group."

"Oh. Yes." Kenzo smiled. "I was there, actually. I killed it." He sighed. "I wish I could have brought it back for proper examination, but unfortunately I wasn't able to." His lips twisted at the memory.

He raised his eyebrows at Susumu, but didn't press. "Shall we try the next one? It's a bit darker. Something of a pink, I would say."

"A good thing, it seems like it would of made a meal out of our tortoise friend if you weren't there." He dipped his head towards the Dragon, perhaps in appreciation.

"That sounds like a idea." The lion agreed as he switched up glasses. "I was curious what a pink drink might taste like."

There seemed to be a great number of glasses. Kenzo selected another few, pouring some of the pink wine into three of them. Two, he handed to his companions, bowing each time.

"Yes." Kenzo said. "My guess would be that the fruit taste will be stronger? It's only a supposition, though." He held up the glass, waiting for the others.
