The Crescent Quarter has been largely insulated from the rapid changes that has affected the rest of the city. The city bustle is but a distant hum amid the curved stretch of elevated land at the verge of the sea of ancient burial mounds undulating toward the west, often shrouded in chilly mists in the morning as autumn creeps in. Yet Lady Amaterasu keeps conquering the shadows, painting the yellow foliage of both Wisteria Lane and Ginkgo Lane seamlessly golden into one blessed route the monks of Icho-ji headed by Abbot Daisen traverse with their holy gong on the way to the Dragon Hill and back every day.

The shrines that collapsed last year are rebuilt grander to appease the Fortunes, while the passage the tremor unearthed beneath them is now locked behind sturdy door guarded by the Seppun at all times. The significance of the accidental discovery of tunnels beneath the Dragon Hill are unknown to the public what only fuels speculation that they have actually found the slumbering dragon underneath. The temple area atop it is now doused in all colours of autumn, with red landscapes of momiji, various genuses of chrysanthemums, and azaleas covering the slope down from the Temple of Benten setting the tone.

In the Seppun Compound, subtle changes have occurred. The area seems more... artful, with the more military aspect of its function like drills and moves of city magistrates relegated to its fringes. Even the movement of Imperial Heralds has been moved to the House of the Orange Blossom. Moreover, the House of Laurels has undergone an unobvious transformation. Floral garlands here and there, scrolls with poems rustling in the wind from under the awnings along starkly coloured Seppun banners, new genuses of flowers dotting the vicinity... even Chappy-kun's favourite defecation area behind the estate has been transformed through dense, fragrant vegetation the governor's dog wages a valiant struggle with night and day. This is of course the hand of Seppun Chouko, Seppun Hassei's fair and graceful Doji wife. Her transformative influence extends to the governor's looks and schedules. Once a hands-on officer in daily affairs and practical in his wardrobe choices, he is now one of the most fashionable men in the city who often delegates administrative duties to others to get back into the estate and take care of his family's future. With great intensity, as eavesdroppers wouldn't find it hard to learn. Chappy-kun is often found wandering alone along the paths once traversed by the magistrate and his dog, but he always faithfully returns to his master's side from his solitary escapades.

Perhaps the only busier place in the district is the House of Sublime Dew run by Seppun Fuzaka, though those that frequent the willow world usually try to do it subtly, without attracting attention. Still, it is no secret that Muhaki Zazu, the acting Tortoise Champion, frequents it with intensity that has long lost a shroud of discretion. Fuzaka has employed new geisha and oiran to meet greater demand, and the unfortunate incident with one former employee is all but forgotten.

The vacancies of Emerald and Jade Offices have been filled with new magistrates while most of the former staff remains. Shiba Noname, Doji Shioden's recent appointee, has likely investigated the extent of disgraced Daidoji Tsukuro's involvement in criminal activities but has done it out of the public eye, without causing fuss, keeping low-profile. He's been so good at it that barely anyone notices the city actually has a resident Emerald Magistrate even as the matters falling into his purview are usually satisfactorily sorted out. Still, the fall of Tsukuro has caused no small shock among those who used to consider him as part of the city's social fabric, and outlandish, often gruesome rumours about his fate are being shared in hushed tones as he has yet to be apprehended. Seppun Hikari, Kuni Sumire's successor in the Jade Office, has been accepted without any open controversy, though Kentoshi's daughter claiming an independent post in the key Seppun city having a Crane-leaning governor is subject to some speculation in the context of where the leadership of the Imperial Families stands these days on contemporary political crises.

For the Icho-ji monastery and Murayasu's Dojo the time has largely stopped, as if timelessness of the ancient kofun has crept over them. Young Shiba Murasaki is still the sensei maiden she's been, passing her extraordinary swordsmanship to the young generation of Seppun bushi as her grandfather once did, leading the life of a humble, chaste onna-bugeisha. In the mornings and evenings she can be spotted silently performing elaborate kata in the dojo courtyard, barely rustling the red floor of maple leaves beneath her small feet.
