Sake gathered earlier in the day Otsuka had sent on a message and climbed the hill to the first torii arch. I saw a place a little ways off that had a nice clearing... Hopefully her friend was shortly behind her.

Receiving Otsuka's message, Koharu had left behind a piece of prose she was struggling to write. After the garden party she'd been a bit sulky and so she'd already had a couple cups of sake before the invitation had reached her. Climbing the hill, holding a lantern in her right hand and her left securing the strap of her backpack, she was grumbling slightly. "Tsk... that was so uncomfortable. And now I'm climbing the hill just before nightfall... I really hope you've got something nice planned Otsuka..."

Okay, she was grumbling a fair bit.

"Konbanwa Doji-san!" Otsuka called out as she saw her approach. She had her hands full with a small bag and a bottle of sake. The same bottle she had been gifted earlier though now clearly tightly stoppered, "I figured with the moon so bright the hill would be the best place to take everything in, ne?"

Lifting her lantern she does break out into a smile upon seeing the Kakita, her grumbles fading away. Why did she have a lantern? Well, while the moonlight was strong, there were still places that it didn't reach. It was better safe than sorry.

"Konbanwa Otsuka-san!" She calls back, dipping her head and strolling over. "Hmm..." She turns around to check the view. "I guess it is a nice night for it." After the sake earlier she was feeling less shy than usual. She had a slight buzz. "It's better than the get together earlier, ne?" She comments, looking back to her old classmate.

"I take it you were not a huge fan of the entire explorer corps gathered in a clearing surrounded by strange animals in cages?" she smirked, "I can promise less controversial conversation. Did you hear some of the things those Miya were saying?" She giggled.

"I even brought a nice warm blanket to hide under," she said patting a bundle wrapped around her back.

"It felt unnatural." Koharu replies sincerely, an involuntary shudder underscoring her words. She shakes her head at Otsuka's assertion. "N-no, what did she say?"

Her eyes move to the blanket and she smiles. Patting the strap of her backpack she looks back to Otsuka's face. "I brought some miso soup."

"Well one was quite content to use a pack of sycophants to attack some poor sod over not being important enough for her or some nonsense. The other went on about an Imperial bastard having a real shot at the throne," she rolled her eyes, "Trying too hard to sound clever I guess."

"Alright let us go a little ways off the path here and find a nice tree to sit under," she said leading the way, "We should be warm enough though."

The buzz of cicadae accompanied their ascent.

"Ah... h-hai, that sounds about right. There were some difficult people there." She sighs softly and frowns momentarily.

At Otsuka's suggestion she nods, following the Kakita and shifting her lantern about for a better look around them. "I've not been this way before." Seeing as Otsuka's duties apparently involved protecting herself, and knowing her fellow Crane well, she was rather trusting of the unknown path she was being taken.

"Mmm, there is a little spot where a tree fell, probably in that earthquake, that opens up a nice view from within the trees," she gave a little smirk back, "It is only about thirty feet out this way... Ah! There!" She said hopping over to the fallen tree.

"What do you think?"

The Doji plods along behind Otsuka. "It sounds nice." Which it certainly did. She smiles at Otsuka's delight and moves to join her by the fallen tree, taking in the view. "How did you find it so fast? Ano, you've only been here a few days... it's a really good view Otsuka-san."

"Well, finding a nice place to take in the scenery seemed like a nice thing to do to keep my mind busy," she smiled, "And I got to make use of it, ne?"

"Hai. I'm glad you did." Koharu takes a seat after setting her things down. "Are you hungry?"

"Eating first would likely be a good answer," she said as she settled in and pulled out the blanket.

"Mochiron." The artisan agrees, removing two wood bowls and spoons, as well as the tightly secured container of miso soup. Offering a bowl and spoon to the Kakita she then pours half the soup into it, nearly filling it to the brim. "Gomen. A bit full. Eto, enjoy!" Smiling brightly she then prepares her own, starting to eat it not long after.

Otsuka takes the bowl and holds it carefully as it gets increasingly full. She takes a careful sip to lower the broth away from the brim. "That is alright. I just need to be less polite in order to make less of a mess," she said shifting the more manageable bowl into one hand and taking the spoon into the other.

"I'll forgive you." Koharu teases, shooting Otsuka a little grin. "You can be messy this one time." Chuckling she returns to carefully taking spoonfuls of her own. It was pleasantly warming.

"Oh, why thank you," she chuckled, "I'd rather not be too messy. I like this blanket. Mmm, but bringing soup was a good idea on a cold night like tonight. I wish I had brought something to warm up the sake but we will survive I suspect."

"It'll be lovely. I'm sure of it." Koharu reassures her friend. "Now, pass me some of the blanket would you? You're meant to be watching out for me and I'm about to get cold." She says, pouting, while there is a twinkle in her eyes suggesting she wasn't anywhere quite so upset as her words suggested.

She set her bowl down for a moment. "Hold the bowl over your head, please Doji-sama," she giggled as she wrapped herself up and snuggled in close so that they could sit wrapped up in the same blanket together, "We will make sure you are nice and warm."
