Otsuka arrived at the magistrates office early in the morning. She had given a moment of reflection to the sunrise already and spent her moments waiting by the gate contemplating a new poem.

Chill morning- No.

Dew laden boughs bend,
Sun rises on a chill morning,
hmmm...

Noname came on time, before the challenged. He behaved very normally.

"Ohayou gozaimasu, Kakita-san. It's humid today."

"Ohayo gozaimasu, Shiba-sama," she bowed fairly formally, "Thank you for coming so early in spite of it."

She looked out over everything covered in mist, "It would appear the Autumn is growing darker."

"As it usually does. Still, a good day for a duel. A bit poetic and without rain." He commented after returning the bow.

The challenged made his entrance in the offices in a casual kimono with a bag containing what is clearly a katana and a bottle of sake.

"Good morning Shiba-sama, Kakita-san"

The mantis bowed to both as was appropriate. He seemed oddly relaxed and mayhaps even un good humor.

She gave a bow to the Mantis. "Good morning Gusai-san," she said with a cool politeness and gave a look towards the magistrate.

"Kakita-san, if you would please verify the identity of your intended challenge and explain your grievance?" Nonome began, turning first to the Crane and inclining his head.

He then pivoted and extended an open hand towards Susumu.

"Gusai-san, if you would then make your statement and respond appropriately. Should the duel still be necessary, we will proceed thusly."

"Gusai-san insinuated I was unfit for my duty. He seems to think he is a captain of ships already," she said with a carefully controlled On, "He shamelessly made it sound like anyone that wasn't a master sailor already was unwanted for Hantei Jama-sama's project."

Edited to fix a typo.

When Otsuki finished speaking, Noname turned his face politely towards the Mantis.

"Is this so, Gusai-san?" he asked, polite words clear in the cool morning.

He raised an eyebrow

''I am glad that Kakita-san admits that most of her greivance is a question of her own interpretation of what was said. Because no, that is not what was meant''

He paused

''I did say that she had no place on a ship, I admit, but this came out of a serious concern after she expressed levity towards the journey ahead. I tried to rectify the situation but was told in turn that I should leave the expedition after several insinuations that I was unfit. She then questionned if minor clanners knew duty or 'chased wishes' if I recall.'' he crosses his arms ''I can brush aside insults to myself but someone who refuses to recognise the pitfalls of an endeavor is a danger to herself and those who will be around her. As a captain partaking in the first voyage I am sensitive to these kind of things because Kakita-san might very well serve under me or one of my esteemed colleagues''

He turned his head to the crane

''Because yes, I think that I am a captain because I am very well one''

Having listened to Susumu's statement, Noname turned back to Otsuki.

"Having heard his statement, are you satisfied or shall the challenge proceed?"

"I would prefer to proceed," Otsuka said utterly devoid of levity. Her hand rested on her sword hilt as she awaited the magistrate's opinion.

"Very well, then this will be settled by the kami. The terms are to first blood. I, Shiba Nonome, will act as witness. May Tengoku judge you both. Step forward, you may begin."

Otsuka fell into her stance with an easy comfort. She stared ahead with her hand by her sword's hilt as if to offer a gift.

"It is settled then," Noname said, bowing between them. He exhaled slowly and resumed the ease with which he had borne himself before the officiation began.

The Crane glanced at the Mantis awaiting an apology now that she has won the duel.
