Utsusemi had followed Yasuhiro's lead quietly, bowing to his expertise and position as a bushi in these circumstances even if her own rank was higher than his. She had preferred to go with Kenzo, but seeing that Bellena was in need of someone to look after her, she had been more than willing to see her friend protected.

Shifting her naginata in her hands, she couldn't help herself from one whispered comment at the sight they arrived to. "Ugh... this... can't be good."

The Mother of Dragons was too distracted by the creepy sight to keep herself on guard for any potential ambushes.

This was not exactly what he had been expecting to see on their journey down here. It wasn't really surprising though. As he entered the room, Yasuhiro came to a stop, his eyes roaming the surroundings for any signs of danger. "Not good at all." He agreed with a nod.

The realities of the grotesque cavern aside, they have not been spotted yet. However, there was something distinctive in the air, something about the walls and the bed for spider eggs...

With a nod towards the dragon woman, Yasuhiro attempted to approach quietly. Unfortunately his armor didn't help with these matters, and he was a little louder then he hoped.

Utsusemi followed the Lion's lead, not making a comment to the unexpected sounds of his armour as they hardly needed to make more noise than they already were. She glanced around, taking in the details of the walls, how the air seemed to move in here, and then there was that bed of spider eggs...

Yasu's rattling almost cost them bringing spider attention to them but they were in another corner of the spacious bed. What Utsusemi discovered was that the cavern was mineral-rich, they were slivers of pyrite and other sulphates as well as pockets of magnesium. On the floors, which actually were floors with an unrecognisable ancient architectural design, probably cast here deep down by some seismic activity, a layer of nitrogen-rich guano was spread all across, apparently brought here by spiders on purpose, probably somehow good for the development of eggs. The air circulation was circular as the area was slightly concave, only side-currents going to the corridors they had come from. The vent was probably somewhere above, along the passage the spiders used to get down here.

As Utsusemi was inspecting this, her husband's instructions suddenly flowed into her consciousness, about minerals and their properties, and her own knowledge let her make the final leap of logic. The spiders, unwittingly, had created an invitation for a hecatomb for their hatchlings. Only a small fire, as soon as it would reach guano and magnesium, would change this subterranean hall into a raging inferno. The only problem was - how to stop if it starts, or how to escape... The oxygen would be sucked out pretty quickly from the area.

Her head tilted back as she looked up, trying to discern the locations of the vent. If they could find that somewhere outside, they could drop burning oil or something similar down the vents leading into the room, and exterminate this place once and for all. Nevertheless, it should be reported back after they had evacuated their own people and the captured ones first. No way was she going to start a fire in here now.

She silently gestured for Yasuhiro that they should move on, as she didn't want to risk speaking of her discovery within earshot of the spiders.

The Matsu nodded, and began to lead the way out. It seemed like the Dragon had some sort of plan, but this really wasn't the time to talk about it.

As they reached a safe distance from the egg-room, Utsusemi spoke in a hushed tone. After all, in case something happened, it was important that Yasuhiro knew what she had discovered.

"It seems these creatures have made their lair a potential danger to themselves; the room is full of substances that could cause considerable damage to that cavern, if not a great deal of the tunnel-systems here, if fire is applied. Not that I recommend we do it now, as it would kill us and anyone else in here too, most likely. But I need to inform command of this, so that this these creatures might be exterminated."

He nodded silently as she shared the information with him. "That's good to know, these beasts are at best a menace. At worse a threat to the entire island and all of it's inhabitants. As you said we should inform our superiors about this, and plan to eliminate this nest as soon as possible."

[Reporting this find to the authorities yields 20 VIP for both as per important discovery; this can evolve into further sub-plot if you want to try to discover the vent and do the destructing yourself. Otherwise it will be resolved off-screen.]

"I'm... not quite sure. Something covered in oil, lit on fire and dumped in through the vents could work, but I'm not certain how it could possibly affect the volcanic activity nearby. I believe it better to report back so a proper plan can be made with more input, than us attempting something now."

She frowned a little. "The substances in there are part of what is used for explosives and firearms... dangerously flammable and combustible."

He really didn't know much about those sort of substances,only enough to shoot a firearm if it came to it. He did know they were dangerous though especially in large quantities. "I'll keep that in mind should I try and make any more fire arrows." He replied softly.

"Honestly it might be best if we avoid using them from here on."

"Agreed." With that the Lion began to lead the way from the hatching room. Though he did make a mental note of its location. He would add it to his maps later today.
