Suihime finally took some time in the evening to learn and explore her new home. It was a strange place, but it had a lot of space. It also seemed to have a lot of strange writing....

It was nothing like she had ever seen. Lines of vertical pictures with oddly disfigured human forms, often with animal heads, hideous and strange. Monsters? Gods? And there were people there, lying in what looked like sarcophagi, all bandaged up. There was a lot of beetles and strange birds there too. It had some ritualistic purpose probably, the whole script, related to burials. What is most terrifying are representations of a black stone some dog-faced people bow to, and another when dog-faced people lift those bandaged ones from the dead.

As Suihime studied the pictographs, the temperature in the house started to oscillate sharply.

Normally, the changing temperature would be strange enough to grab anyones attention. Suihime however was fascinated by the drawings on the wall. It wasn't Mekhem or Merenease, of that she had no doubt. She quickly took out her calligrapghy kit and some paper, writing down the drawings in the order they were. After a short while, she paused and frowned. What did it all mean?

It was hard to tell... wait... they couldn't have moved. Of course they couldn't. They were like she had just drawn them. The same. But... Yes, the same. The knife in the dogface's hand, she must have missed it the first time. It happens, who remembers all the details at once? Why is it so hot? It's evening. Damn hot evenings.

Suihime frowned more. She didn't make calligraphy mistakes. And why was it so damn hot all of a sudden?!

She put the paper she drew down, and began to quickly draw these new ones.

Maybe in this heat I did make an error? Drawings don't move she thought as she paused to draw her fan and fan herself, comparing her new drawings to the ones on the wall and the ones on the floor

They looked the same now, strangely. Perhaps right after she had put them on the floor. As if they had... momentarily adjusted, and stopped shifting. The heat receded with an audible creak came from the defunct brewing machinery.

Suihime frowned more, looking at the paper...then jumped at the creak! She turned, and moved quickly to investigate the machinery.

What in the world...?

Looking from the second floor catwalk toward one of the vats it looked... complex. Felt like advanced technology, even like an alchemist's laboratory for giants, all the interconnected vats and capillaries...

Suihime took a while studying the machine, seeing if she could understand it better

It was less a cultural artifact and more a complex engineering work, so the most she could determine was that it was culturally in line with how the rest of the house had been made and decorated, and its origins would trace deep into those regions of the Burning Sands Suihime had little familiarity with.

Where is this thing from? Suihime was fascinated by it! Having no idea of the where its from, she moved onto trying to work out how it worked. Or if it could ar all work.

It looked like it was something between a mechanised kitchen and a distillery but Suihime lacked technical insight to discern more.

"Hmph."

Suihime was annoyed. She would have to find somewhere in the city where she could research this language. For now though, she continued to look through the house from top to bottom, seeing what else there was.

The most disturbing things, on top of other disturbing things like vacillating temperature, was that there was no entry to the basement even though she could swear there should be one.

Now that just didn't make sense. Suihime frowned more, and focused her attentions on finding the entrance, even moving to examine any part of the floor to see if it might be liftable.

To the best of her cognizance, there wasn't even a spot some trapdoor could be concealed. The floor was seamless. Way too seamless. Like this was the architect's design to not make an entrance.

This makes no sense...

Suihime went back to the machine, to see if that went down into the ground or not. Maybe that would have something...

The beams supporting the structure were horizontal. None went into the floor.

Suihime cursed under her breath. It was clear she wouldn't learn anything on her own.

I'll have to ask the locals about this place.

She returned to the wall of writing, to examine it once again.

But nothing knew occurred, no matter what approaches she was trying. The brewery was not yielding its secrets easily.
