"He can be very stoic, hai." Which makes it all the nicer when he does open up. Koharu found herself smiling, but quickly looked away as she heard noises from the smithy. "Oh. I suppose he is still working on something, ne?"

Utsusemi cocked her head slightly as she listened to the noises. "Hai, so it would seem. If you wish to pop in to say hello, that is alright; I can finish the tea in the meantime. And find something for neko-sama."

"Ano... if you don't mind...?" She bows in gratitude once it is confirm. Slipping away to the part of the building that was a smithy she skips tapping at the wood or clearing her throat; it was too loud for such things to be noticed. Instead she strolls in and looks about for Sanjuro directly.

"Sa... Agasha-san?" Koharu calls, glancing around.

He was sitting there, on his anvil, playing with his hammer on his knees. He was... drunk! Or at least tipsy. The scent of alcohol was recognisable, there was no mistake. "Ossu, Koharu." He looked at her with a slightly feral gaze. "Damn, you're pretty."

This... wasn't what she was used to. Not least of which in the afternoon of all times. Risking a glance behind her she then quickly hurries over to his side, dipping her head and then crouching down to get a better look at him.

She frowns.

"You smell of sake Agasha-san. What's wrong?" While she wasn't used to Sanjuro being drunk she was somewhat used to handling drunk, or tipsy, samurai. As such she speaks a little slower and does her best to keep Sanjuro's eyesight and attention on her face.

He booped her nose with the tip of his finger, lightly.

"Nothing's wrong, silly. I just drank some. Men do that... from time to time."

He was a poor liar.

Koharu rubbed her nose, trying to keep a slightly serious air. "Not normally in the afternoon. Not you anyway." She points out in a gentle voice. "Besides, drinking is best done with company and your anvil doesn't count." Her eyes study him with concern. "Talk to me?"

"Drink with me then."

He grabbed the nearby bottle of Thranish whiskey and extended it to her.

"I have to strike a... conversation then. Sure, dear. Long here? Met Utsu?"

The Doji complies, taking the gaijin drink and turning to look about for a glass or a cup. She wasn't about to gulp some down from the bottle to 'join in'. However, she was worried about him.

"Hai. She is in the kitchen now. Making tea." Koharu responds. "She seems friendly. Inquisitive too ne?"

"Not with me. We know each other well enough." He suddenly turned grumpier. The smithy did not exactly have cups.

The Crane held onto the brandy, nodding to Sanjuro.

"Has she said or done something?" She reaches out with her other hand to touch his shoulder supportively.

"She did nothing wrong!" He suddenly bellowed, gripping her hand on his shoulder. His analytical mind did not turn off under the pressure of alcohol, but his control over emotions were cast to the wind. Still, he realised he may have put his foot in the mouth and shut up. "I am drunk, Koharu. I am sorry."

The bellow and tight grip of her hand made her flinch and tremble. She forced a brave face and tried to figure out what he wasn't saying. Had she herself upset him somehow?

"I-It's okay..." She gave his hand a squeeze. "What's gotten into you? Have I... have I done something?"

"You? Don't kid me." He pulled her into an embrace spontaneously, but then let her go, remembering he wasn't the most pleasant to hug at the moment, reeking with alcohol. "I'd offer a kiss but I probably don't smell nice."

He was also dirty from work. Koharu just shook her head and chuckled a little. She could take a wash later at home. She gave his torso a few pats.

"Later. Come, have some tea. You can tell me what's on your mind when you're ready."

The quietness of preparing tea was interrupted when she heard the sudden bellow from the forge. Concern began to creep into her mind, unsure of what was going on. Had something happened? Should she intrude on them, on what could be a private argument between the two? Glancing to the cat, she wished for a moment she could bid it to go into the forge on her behalf, but the cat was a cat and just glared at her in anticipation of the food it had been promised.

Concerned that perhaps she was to blame somehow, she silently abandoned the tea for now to approach closer to the forge, to hear what was going on.

"Tea, right. Utsu's." He pulled away, reaching to the stone pool where he indurated blades to cup some water with folded hands and cast it on his face. "I'll be ready soon enough. It's just hard sometimes."

"What is...?" She got up, one hand free and the other holding onto the brandy. I should put this away for now. She placed her free hand on his shoulder affectionately for a moment then stepped away to a polite distance.

He relaxed a little at her touch, then rolled his shoulders, nodded firmly and moved in before Koharu would.

"Utsu-sama. You're about to serve tea?"

He was too drunk to avoid her gaze and so she could see many things in his eyes, squeezed in betwixt sense of guilt and longing.

The Crane followed just behind him, giving Utsusemi a nod and then looking about the kitchen space for somewhere to store the foreign drink.
