Utsu could not tell Zazu was lying (can't pass), but the whole discussion put her ill at ease, how these men seemed to care little for the sanctity of the newly-minted Fortune. She frowned at the display. A Fortune should be revered... not this charade of political play. |

Zazu nodded to Berena, then shrugged while looking at Ryoshida, following with finding Gusai Shumpei in the crowd, making the man think of all those Crane ronin artists he had drawn to the city to get the Sapphire Abode constructed. They were all here, all in one place to hear the message... "And to strengthen the artistic profile of the family the late Daughter of Heaven decided to single out, I offer an opportunity to swear fealty and become a Someisa for any artist creative and adroit to meet the challenge of the Imperial Year of Arts and revering Sadahako-kami through their work. I will spend the rest of the day hearing those who want to join the Someisa in their new mission. I will also see these news spread to reach all other bereaved artists and geisha patrons across the Empire." He most likely meant the now scattered remnants of the Iwasaki. "They can find new home among the Tortoise, they will be sustained with dignity and supported so that their talents can flourish. The Tortoise will show every generosity to foster the new arts during the coming year." He then turned to Jama and bowed low before Ryoshida could interrupt him. "If it pleases Hantei-no-kimi, a batch of Someisa artists and Four Temples monks assigned by Abbot Daisen may be ready to embark with the Explorers. I will see to it that they are ready before departure, and Muhaki Berena no Someisa will be responsible for them, so that the Temple of Sadahako can be built wherever Hantei-no-kimi finds suitable." |

Utsusemi tapped her closed fan against her chin, considering this move. Given enough time before sailing, she figured she should be able to make a counter to ensure that the Tortoise did not claim all the credit for this project. |

Jama kept them tense for a moment, visibly about to speak until he did. "We will accept this contribution of the Tortoise as long as it remains sincerely comprehensive. However, while acknowledging a role of your vassal in spearheading the endeavour, Muhaki-san, we wish the creation of the Temple of Sadahako to be a collective task of the Imperial Explorers, a sign of unity in our beliefs against heathen superstitions and the demonstration of the excellence of our culture. Upon completion it can be left it in Someisa care, as enshrined in the Edict." |

Ryoshida saw no space for further intervention. Zazu had been given a golden opportunity and had used it well, and Jama had struck enough of a balancing act to not antagonise other stakeholders. Ryoshida himself had pushed on the Teppodoka the way that could not have endeared Jama and on the betrothal matters, and now could call a third of the vessels on the expedition aligned to him. His narrowed eye found his own on the dais and in the crowd, but otherwise stayed silent. |

Tori listens to the exchange with veiled interest, hiding behind her fan as she does some mental math on the situation. On the one hand, it undermines a portion of her own assigned mission, but the one she's admittedly least suited to. She will certainly be expected to support, and has some of the resources for the task already which may be called on from other projects, unfortunately. This changes plans, but... how much?
