Edogawa walked the deck of the Ahitae Maru once more. Every rope was in place. Every tool was stored. The sails were secure. Every inch of the ship had been cleaned thrice over. Everything was ready. He laughed, earning a confused look from Nari. This was probably the last time it would look like this. Even the loading of the hold would leave a mark and change the configuration of things on deck. Then, the crew would arrive along with their personal supplies and begin their own preparations. This ship was not a piece of art to be preserved and admired. It was a finely made tool that would see continued use until it could no longer serve its purpose. That was the nature of all of Edogawa's works. |
