The priestess sat at the beach with her brazier. She tossed in some flowers and lit them ablaze. Though the kami came to her, it was not in the least bit helpful with what she wanted. It seemed that it wanted more to destroy, not to create. By the time she was done communicating with the kami, she was panting out of pure fury.

Tori joins the Yogo, keeping a respectful distance for some time. Though this isn't her forte, it is clear this isn't going well. After a time, she pulls out her tea set and lights a small flame of her own, to bring a pot of water to boil.

When fatigue and anger finally break through the Yogo's other mask, Tori makes her way over without a word and bows deeply, presenting a crisp, soothing cup of green tea, and a sunny smile. The effort, at least, is appreciated.

"Wait," she murmured to the Crane, clearly at her breaking point for any courtesy. She added more flames to the brazier and crossed her arms.

"You did not give me any offering this time!"

The woman shrugged. "Karushiferu, I believe in equivocal exchange."

"You dare?!" Some of the flames jumped up at her hands. Though it singed her, she maintained her On and stared forward. "We do not appreciate humans who think to command us!"

"Not command." Akarei bowed her head. "I merely wish to have your aid." She looked to the Asahina and then back to the pyre. "Her Family favors the Air over the Fire. It would only be right to prove your superiority."

The flames remained silent for a moment. "Fine. But you'll have to follow my commands very carefully..."

A few minutes later, the redhead looked over to her companion and smiled. "I may have what we are hoping for."

When asking nicely fails, try arguing? Tori withdraws, and watches the exchange, interested, but not really understanding. The kami are fickle things, but even the proclamation that Akarei has 'what they need' is unclear and a little unnerving.

Still, she sets down the tea. Apparently, a settled mind was not what was needed to deal with fickle kami. She takes out the damaged mirror, and offers it to the Scorpion.

Were this a stage play, this is the part that would precede some dark and terrible curse.

The Yogo took the mirror and let out a soft sigh. This had better work. She recited the prayer as described by the kami and looked to the small woman beside her. "Trust me," she mouthed to her before inching forward and holding the mirror over the brazier. The mirror was taken in by the flames, along with the woman's hand, but she remained still as the process occurred.

When the process was complete, she took out a rag to cradle the mirror and set it onto the ground. "It's hot to the touch," the redhead warned before gritted teeth.

Tori silently prays, too, not sure if the kami can hear her wish, and when the ritual is done, she simply nods, staring intently. Watching. Waiting. Hoping.

The spell works quickly, but subtly; The discolouration from the scorch marks fade away, the mirror becomes less cloudy and cracked, and much of the broken or warped glaze is smoothed over. There are some things that are not fixed though, mostly where lacquer has completely melted off and pieces have chipped off.

Still, it's quite the improvement, especially from the front since the mirror itself wasn't missing anything.

Tsk.

The woman let out a small sigh and remained silent as she stared at the mirror. It was not in her nature to admit that others may do better than she. Besides, there was nobody else for her to ask.

Tori waits, watching; she has an oddly good sense for how long it takes things like this to cool off. Eventually, she takes up her mirror, handling it through the cloth. It's actually a mirror again, mostly. That should polish out well enough...

She turns it over. A bit of flower and sky are back on a couple of the tiles along the back, and not much else. Her eyes linger on the blank center tile for a while, but she forces the disappointment from her mind. It's not perfect, but it's more than she ever imagined getting back. Enough that the lacquerwork could even be redone, some day.

As she gets to her feet, she's quiet for a long moment, revisiting happier times. She tries to find her words multiple times, to handle the situation with dignity. But as the world begins to blur, it's clear that's not happening, and instead she throws her arms around the Yogo, "Thank you!" she chokes out, burying her face against the Scorpion.

Hugging was a foreign concept for the Yogo as a whole. Her arms remained at her side awkwardly as she considered embracing her back, patting her on the head, or even shoving her off because she felt uncomfortable. She looked around the rest of the beach to see if anyone was watching until she reminded herself that she did not care what others thought. That was unlike her.

But perhaps she cared now. Perhaps she enjoyed the hug.

And sigh a frantic breath she squirmed out of the hug and stumbled away a few paces back. She placed a hand over her racing heart, missing the Crane's touch there already, and took a harsh breath. "Enjoy the mirror." She tried her best to regain her On before turning about to flee the Waterfront.

As the Yogo squirms away, what Tori just did begins catching up with her. It's a good thing Akarei turned, because moments later, she's glowing red. She raises a hand, thinking to apologize, but the Scorpion is already getting away.

Well. That was awkward. Still...

Tori looks in her sister's mirror and smiles.

That Scorpion is kinder than she wants people to think.
