Not long now before the departure... He'd seen them at a distance over the past day or 2, but with nothing else to occupy him and a kind of nervous frustration building up, he decided to take another look at the ships that would make up the expedition. They were definitely impressive, he couldn't deny that. But at the same time, he couldn't help but think of how much effort had gone into their construction, and how misplaced it was. In the end he found himself glaring at the things before he caught himself, smoothing his face back into its normal stoic mask. One corner of his mouth crinkled a little in a small sardonic half-smile. If stares could start fires, those things would be lying at the bottom of the water by now. But then of course they'd just rebuild them. Some people never learned, and all these intellectuals seemed to be the ones most guilty of it. |
