Post subject:  Casting Spells Outside Rokugan

Once you leave Rokugan, the kami get sparser, more dormant. They never entirely disappear, the shugenja just find it increasingly hard to make them answer their call. As a rule, in mechanical terms it means that every spell cast outside Rokugan needs two more Raises for a basic success.

If a shugenja has a Friendly Kami Advantage, all spells for that kami's element require only one additional raise to succeed, since the kami are still slumberous, angsty or otherwise unresponsive for being taken out of the land blessed by the Elemental Dragons.

And yet, even in foreign lands there are secret pockets where kami dwell, or nodes of power along the fine tendrils of elemental power where they congregate and thrive. It is just hard to find them. Sense Spell is a way to do so if one lucks out in casting it roughly in a right place. All casting in such a place for the Element of the kami gathered there suffers no penalties and may even provide boons if a shugenja builds rapport with them.
