It's a nice idea. I don't see evidence for coffee making people more magical however, and magic is frowned on in setting. I'd therefore shift it a bit.

How about masteries focusing on giving small bonuses to intelligence based skills for an hour? E.g. +1k0 to all intelligence based rolls for an hour after the ceremony for mastery rank 3. Coffee is proven to be effective at helping people concentrate after all. Or perhaps a single +1k0 to any non-combat skill in the next hour. Maybe the mastery 7 lets it becomes a +2k0. Make it a maximum of once a day and it's nice and fluffy; compelling to take, but without being too strong.

Then I demand that we also have the caffeine-crash, which is also a proven side-effect of coffee.

I think the ceremony giving bonuses like that is a bit too much, tbh.

It's interesting, though I think I would like it more as a skill equally useful to the entire playerbase.

As it seems like something that should fit in the same niche as tea ceremony.

I am very reluctant to buff Int in any way. It's already a very powerful trait in the setting.

I think it fills its own little interesting niche that is similar enough to Tea Ceremony without being a clone. But I'm a big advocate for fluff being more fluffy than mechanically relevant and optimized in a broad sense, so this works for me.

It is probably wise not to buff Intelligence any more... Lots of weirdos with 5 intelligence running around. Freakin' weirdos.

The effects on Fatigue are nice and thematic. You could add a Perception based benefit, perhaps. I don't like the spell slot restoration as it is. Maybe if it were limited to a specific Ring.

Is there such a thing as Coffee Ceremony in any of the cultures L5R represents? I've had coffee in Asian coffee shops, but it's never as serious as a formal Japanese tea ceremony. Consequently I don't know that it makes sense for Coffee Ceremony to be a real skill. Maybe I could see a case for Artisan: Cappuchino where they draw pictures of animals in the foam on top of your coffee.

Baristas making art in the cappucino-foam will be head-canon for me now when it comes to Coffee Ceremony.

It's been put into the Burning sands setting in the past. The only real world coffee ceremony I am aware of is the Ethiopian one.

I'd actually probably prefer if the effects on fatigue were just a benefit of coffee over a skill benefit. Maybe followed by a crash over the next 6 hours to make it more fair. aka (ignore +5 tn penalties for 6 hours, get a additional + 5 to tn penalties for the following 6 hours.)

Mostly because if you're doing coffee ceremony for yourself you are probably already in tn penalties which will make it harder, and if you aren't sleeping you might not have the full hour of time for a coffee ceremony.

I am not sure gaijin bean juice buffing Rokugani magic makes sense and that is my main issue with it. Making it so you cannot sleep in the following time slot would also be appropriate
