Iuchi Sahir

Since leaving the Empire, the shugenja of the Iuchi have been slowly losing their connection to the elemental kami. They are not as active and present outside of the empire and are slow to rouse, making prayers to them far more difficult. The most successful among the Unicorn in finding a replacement for this growing weakness have been those that studied in the Burning Jewel. Their schooling with the Qabal and other sahir have given them a capable command of Hakim’s Seal along with a dose of magical pragmatism, allowing forays into fields of study traditional shugenja in the Empire might find blasphemous...

But at their hearts they are still Ki-Rin, the travelers. And so this magic to them was meant to be a travelling companion, not something to tie them to the Jewel. Their studies of the seal pursued its flexibility and utility, rather than delving into the deepest secrets it could provide. As a result, their abilities to use the seal flexibly exceed more settled sahir of the Sands.

These days the bulk of the clergy of the Faith of the Lost Daughter consists of Iuchi sahir, and a doctrinal shift which leads to perceptions of the Seal as a way to tap into Shinjo's distant power is underway.

The Shifting Seal - At Rank one and each School Rank thereafter, the Summoner chooses 3 spells to learn. They must select spells from any given type (such as Jinn or Death) in order of their mastery level.

Their Qabal teachers did not give away their order’s precious secrets, but the Iuchi had different goals and ideas in mind when studying. They were seasoned travellers as much as they were wielders of magic. Thus they trained to be able to cast in stressful situations outside of classrooms and safe halls. On any spellcasting roll, an Iuchi Sahir may ignore TN penalties up to twice their School rank.

They have also learned how to create effects between elements and disciplines that are not suited for such, displaying flexibility in manipulating the seal. An Iuchi sahir may cast a spell from one discipline using two slots from a different element (these two slots must be the same element). This is a complex task and the spell is treated as one mastery level higher when cast in this way for the purposes of calculating difficulty and casting time, but not spell effects.
