Kitsu Keiji stood on the prow of Kunshu Maru as they approached the cliffs. Some of the men whispered anxiously about the diseased eta who were said to live in these forsaken caves, but the Lion captain was fearless, and ordered his officers to suppress such talk among the crew. Great courage was required for great success, Lady Matsu had said.

Several coil of ropes snaked down from the cliffs above, and the detail of sailors assigned to cargo duty began tying baskets of food supplies and other trade goods to them. Soon the offerings of Kunshu Maru were being hauled up to the caves above.

Ringo steps out onto deck to observe and help coordinate. He offers a polite bow to Keiji. "Ohayo Kitsu-kancho. I have you had your rice today? I hope everything is in order."

"So far, so good," Keiji affirmed. "Sending the supplies up has been no problem. Lowering the guns down the cliff may be a little more difficult, since they are so heavy, but I have confidence that, with a little careful effort, it should be fine."

Ringo nods. "That is good to hear. So what do you think about the prototype cannon I made? Do you plan to equip the Kunshu Maru with a few karingo?" He asks as he observes the process.

"Indeed, I am counting on this new prototype, Chief Engineer; and Fortunes willing, many more like it," Keiji said with a nod. "We cannot allow gaijin to have superior weapons to our own. The Admiral has ordered us to be friendly with them.... for now. A good officer prepares for possible contingencies."

Ringo nods. "After talking with some Unicorn, there appear to be quite a number of different gaijin cultures. Not all of them may be friendly with us. So it is prudent to be prepared to fight and show them the strength of the Empire."

"Exactly so," Keiji said, nodding. "A ship armed with these karingo could be decisive in such an event. Though take care not to get killed before we get back to Rokugan, Hida-san. A few karingo might turn the course of a battle; having an engineer who knows how to make karingo could change the course of a war."

As the ropes came back down the cliff, carrying down one of the bulky metal weapons that Ringo and the leprous craftsmen had fabricated for them, the captain barked orders to the crewmen to make sure it was lowered gently onto the deck.

"I will keep that in mind Kitsu-kancho." Ringo nods.

"Perhaps to be on the safe side. I should make an extra schematic of how to build them and leave them with you for safe keeping?" He suggests.

"That sounds prudent," Keiji said with a nod. "Please see to it. We can keep it with the other important documents, just in case it is needed. Such a schematic would be valuable information for our weaponsmiths back in Rokugan."

Ringo nods. "I will find some time in the next couple of days to draft some and then present them to you later Kitsu-kancho."
