Gaijin Pepper. While poluvora is in use, it's not officially in production in Rokugan, but traded by the Tortoise in small quantities for use with personal gunpowder weapons. Despite gradual acceptance of gunpowder weaponry as a personal curio no one really would risk boasting massive cashes of gaijin pepper or possession of cannons even if there were such... Are there? The advantage works as normal except it provides a sizeable supply of poluvora (for up to 100 shots with personal weapon). In addition, Tortoise, Crane, Unicorn and Dragon characters can purchase it for 2 points less, and Imperial, Scorpion and Crab for 1 point less - with GM approval hinging on sufficient story justification, mostly related to membership in relevant clandestine group.

Gozoku. The recency of Gozoku rule makes networks of contacts better accessible in former Clans of the Triumvirate. Scorpion, Crane and Phoenix characters can purchase this Advantage for 2 points less.

Lying Darkness. The presence of Shadow has only just manifested itself in Ningen-do with the emergence of the Goju. This Advantage costs 2 more points for all non-Scorpion characters.

Maho. Neither Iuchiban nor Bloodspeakers have happened if they ever will. Nakanu's Journals have not been re-discovered. The most serious maho incident are half-century old depredations of former Kitsu daimyo Uragiri. All characters outside Crab, Lion and Phoenix Clans have to pay 2 points more for the Advantage. Jade Office members with at least Status 2.0 may choose to pay 4 point less but forsake the option of gaining maho scrolls through this Advantage.

Clan Secret. This can be taken for any publicly known faction. Members of that faction pay 2 points less for the Advantage. Scorpion characters pay 1 point less for other faction's secrets. The nature of the known secret should be agreed on with GM. This can be bought multiple times for one faction, each level granting the character knowledge of progressively greater and more significant secrets. The Advantage gives you 2 ranks in Lore skill for the relevant faction on each purchase (which is not in itself secret and can also be purchased normally).

Opium. The production and distribution of that medicinal and recreational drug has not met with Rokugan-wide acceptance. While opium is not banned by an imperial edict, and Clans having their opium cartels see little problem with its circulation, they still guard their oligopoly closely and the Emerald Champion is still persecuting anyone involved in the continued existence of the Sparrow Trail and other similar clandestine routes. For their involvement, the Sparrow can purchase this advantage for 2 points less, and Crab, Scorpion and Mantis for 1 point less. It grants a free rank of Craft: Opium as well as either a stash of ready drug (20 doses of whatever type) or +1k1 to Social Skill Rolls with members of the opium cartels (player's choice).

Ashalan. Perhaps you've met and for a time have been allowed to travel across the Burning Sands with one of this strange, blue-skinned race, partaking in their arcane wisdom. Or perhaps you've deciphered just enough of their strange language to glean ancient truths from their cryptic texts on some ancient papyrus or an inscribed artifact you've been able to find in Medinaat al-Salaam or in some old ruins of a city that fell on the Day of Wrath. You gain one rank in Lore: Ashalan, and, akin the Sage advantage, you may consider yourself skilled at Rank 1 for all Lore rolls related to the mysteries of the Sands, whether concerning Khadi, Naar Teban, Jinn or else. Or you may come into a possession of one piece of Crysteel weapon (+1k0 to Attack Rolls, affects Jinn and targets vulnerable to Crystal). This Advantage cannot be taken by anyone who's not spent significant amount of time in the Burning Sands, and only with GM approval. In rare circumstances the Advantage can be taken twice to exhaust both options.

Khadi. Wherever you've found this knowledge - in excerpts from the Book of the Dead, in restricted resources of the Qabal, in ruins of Laramun or from a rakshasa that tired of having you as a plaything for tortures and puzzles - you know the basics of the ritual of the Hidden Heart, and you can try to perform it at your own risk. Gain 1 rank in Lore: Khadi or a Khadi emphasis in Spellcraft. This Advantage cannot be taken by anyone who's not spent significant amount of time in the Burning Sands, and only with GM approval.
