More an understanding than an actual modification. By acquiring ranks of Social Position and raising your Status Rank what you gain is elevation in the Celestial Order, becoming worthy of distinguished appointments, offices and responsibilities. It does not mean you automatically acquire those distinguished appointments, offices and responsibilities (though it might, if the purchase corresponds with in-game development of that kind). It requires creative role-playing and/or downtime goals to secure those. This particularly refers to Stations envisioned by the Way of the Daimyo sub-mechanics. In other words, you don't gain Station just by increasing your Status, you also need an IC chain that lets you claim one. The above mostly refers to situations after character creation. The benefits of buying ranks of Social Position when the character is created is that you can assume to have already secured the preferred appointment if the final Status Rank is sufficient. |
