Your character has borrowed money, and you can determine how much, but it needs to be repaid in time or bad things will start happening in your life, and to your social standing. If this Disadvantage is taken during character creation, it does not yield you additional koku in your starting outfit (it was spent prior to the game) but you get xp as normal. Every rank of this Disadvantage is worth 4 koku. You have to pay the money back to the lender within the next year, with a 10% interest (4 koku 2 bu for every point in the Disadvantage). After character creation you can pick this Disadvantage whenever you borrow money, and for it you are awarded 1 Rank of Wealth Advantage, but have to repay it on negotiated terms (time of the loan becoming due and interest rates are negotiable). Failure to meet the terms of payment in part or in full results in honour losses and the points in this Disadvantage being converted into other Disadvantages, like Black Sheep, Social Disadvantage, Obligation, Sworn Enemy, Infamy etc. by the decision of GM. Shaming the family with extensive unpaid debt (Ranks 6+) may result in the character being requested to commit seppuku. |
