Isamu stood back a little, watching over his small squad doing their morning exercises on the deck. Not all of them were faring as well as he with the constant motion of the boat, but the fact that his small squad happened to include a shugenja skilled in healing and medicine made sure that none were too badly off.

He had heard stories of filthy gaijin that attacked and sunk any ship they came across, and wanted his men ready to put down any such threat in an instant. That was part of the reason he was going to make sure that they kept their discipline up and got used to this environment.

Hikari did her own morning exercises; which normally would consist of stretches and some jiujutsu kata that were more like tai-chi... but her balance was being thrown off by the sea, and she chose to instead focus mainly on trying to stay balanced. After a few semi-successes, she called it quits and took up a position that allowed her to watch the squad doing their exercises instead.

Noticing the Seppun watching his squad, Isamu moved over towards her and bowed politely. "We are not accustomed to a battlefield that shifts beneath our feet, but we will manage, Seppun-sama." There was a hint of pride in his voice. They had been with him for a while now, after all.

Presumably, over the course of the trip they'd at least had introductions. It would be awfully weird if they had not, after all. So she did not feel compelled to introduce herself for a 2nd time.

"They seem to be getting the hang of it," she said.

His eyes returned to his squad. "We're used to dealing with difficult situations. There have been some problems for my clan recently." When in doubt, understatement was always the safest option.

"Most of those here have served with me for over a year. With my assignment to this ship, it was seen as a fitting gesture to send a small detachment to show support for the venture." And probably also a way to stop me from complaining too loudly
