Edogawa and his crew had been continually administering to the needs of Amaterasu's Grace since leaving the Empire. He knew it was weathering the voyage well and a cursory inspection of the Walrus while the ships were connected suggested all was well there. He needed to examine the other ships, though, and set out with Nari and Lopez to do so.

Boarding the Yamato Maru, he looked around for her captain.

Rokuro was observing the inspection teams from the railing of the wheelhouse, the tips of his hair fluttering in the breeze. He contemplated cutting it shorter, given how inconvenient it was on board, but he wasn't sure he wanted to. It was a sign of his heritage, after all...

Glancing at the manifests, he wondered how much would be gone by the time those teams were done. He could already see them pilfering his holds. It was expected, but still added a little stress ... and he had told Akarei he would let her handle it.

Bugger.

"Suzume-sama." Edogawa bowed after he approached. "I hope Suitengu-no-kami has been smiling upon you. Are there any issues my men and I can address while we are here?"

Rokuro started, having been so engrossed in the manifests that he did not see the man approach.

Calming himself, he bowed and said, "Ah, Miya-san... I hadn't seen you. I'm doing well, thank you. You?"

The mans' question somehow slipped past unanswered.

"Well." he nodded. "From what I can see, the Yamato has been holding up well, too. Have you had any problems?"

"Nothing too serious, just yet."

Rokuro sighed as another bushel of rice was passed over into a small boat.

"Any reason? I didn't realize we gave that impression."

"I built these ships." he shrugged. "I just want to make sure everything is holding together. You've been taking good care of her."

"Oh?"

Rokuro looked surprised.

"I didn't realize. You've done a good job; Yamato may be the most traditional of build, but she's holding up well."

"Of course, none of the ships have been put to the test yet." he glanced over the rigging. "Once we reach our destination, that may change."

Hrm...

"Well, I'll do what I can to ensure she makes the journey."

Rokuro was not a seasoned hand.

"If you had any issues, specific to Yamato, you wanted to share, I'll keep an eye on them. As her builder, you might know."

He shook his head. "She's your ship, captain. Think of her and treat her as such. I'm just here to offer any help you may need."

"And, to advise you regarding some of the waters surrounding our destination."

Rokuro paused.

"I see."

He contemplated going for his charts, but given how useless they were, he just asked, "I assume they are more difficult than those we departed."

"Only to the north." he explained. "My understanding is that the waters there are treacherous, rocky with many shoals. There may be charts of the area, but we don't have them. It's best to avoid them until we can map the waters ourselves and explore the northern islands."

"I see, is the expedition headed that way?"

Rokuro wasn't sure what future plans the voyage entailed.

"From what I have been told, the main island has been inhabited and developed by the Tortoise for some time." he explained. "Rather than forcing ourselves into what is there, it may be better to establish the explorers on one of the other islands."

"I see."

Rokuro considered that quietly, and then added, "Do we know how many islands there are? I imagine the Imperial scion won't be eager to settle for a notably inferior island, especially if the seas around it are treacherous."

"I do not know." he shook his head. "They are simply something I heard of and Asahina-sama suggested we look into them after we arrive."

"I see."

Rokuro nodded.

"I can't promise anything, but if the opportunity arises, I'm sure Yamato would be glad to provide escort. We did sign on as explorers."

"Exactly." he smiled. "This will be our first real expedition."
