Khenbish had received word: settle in for the wait. He could be patient, when he had to be, and so he was trawling the streets of Little Aqahba for a new place to stay. The garrison was fine and well, but some privacy would be appreciated, if just to get away from the tension his appearance caused amongst the unfamiliar soldiers.

His parangu was at his right hip, and on his right sleeve he wore the sigil of an orange unicorn with a mane of fire. He wasn't riding, but he was leading a large, black steed with a striking white mane and tail.

Hikari for her part, was dressed in her yukata. One would have to be quite boorish indeed; rokugani or not; to not recognize that it was quiite a very expensive piece of clothing. Although it had recently suffered some damage that caused the colors to fade slightly. It proudly carried the mon of the Seppun family, the only mon in the entire empire other than that of the Hantei themselves that was allowed to include the chrystanthemum. At her sides she carried a number of items. The wakizashi ofcourse drew attention, but so did the scroll satchel, as well two very intricately carved statuettes in the form of... people?, fastened to her attire with equally intricate jewelry.

She seemed completely lost.

Khenbish's black sirwal and indigo kurta were lightweight, suited for the desert weather, but they served well enough for the more humid climate of Kameyama Jima. He had long hair, gathered into a small topknot with a tail, bound into sections, reaching past his shoulder blades.

He noted the lost girl, with a slight slant of one eyebrow. His attention stemmed, not from concern for the girl, but from how inconvenient it would be if she wound up getting mugged.

She noticed the gajin staring. Which in itself was not unexpected. She was no doubt quite the unusual sight, after all. And she'd been used to stares ever since she was a little child. What drew *her* attention, however, was the sigil. She had seen something similar.

"Ah, excuse me," she said, approaching the strange man and giving him a bow.

Surely he will speak Rokugani if he is associated with the ki-rin

"I am Seppun Hikari, I appear to be lost."

The first words, along with the bow, made sense of a sort. She was saying hello. The rest was lost on him.

"'Ana asafa, 'ana la 'afahamuk." He peered at her, his left eye cold, seeming to stare.

Well, that's a problem

She pointed to the sigil of a unicorn. "Ki-rin?"

"VocĂȘ fala merenaese?" he tried.

Well, that wasn't going anywhere.

She pointed at her self. "Seppun Hikari." then paused to make sure it wasn't thought to be part of her name. "Rokugan."

Surely if he was Ki-Rin he should at least know the name.

"Ah, roko-ghan." Khenbish nodded, then tapped his chest, "Khenbish." He placed a slender finger against the mon on his shoulder, "yes, Unicorn," he confirmed.

He did not look like a samurai. And she did not know the words he was speaking. Perhaps it was not ki-rin after all. Maybe he was subservient to the ki-rin somehow. Like a mercenary working for them. Kind of like a ronin. She honestly couldn't tell.

Well great... now what.

She looked uncertain about what to say. Since saying stuff didn't really matter apparently.

Khenbish grunted, his eyebrows drew together slightly. The girl had seemed interested in the Unicorn, as had Kenzo the day before. Maybe...

"Ki-rin, Unicorn. Unicorn, ki-rin," he insisted.

"Ah, so it's like a different name for the same thing," she said; though mostly for her own benefit of course.

Hmm, what else.

"Ki-rin are the clan of Shinjo" she said, emphasing the Kami. "The Seppun follow in the service of Hantei."

Perhaps he would know the names of the Kami.

"Shinjo," Khenbish echoed with clear reverence. The name Hantei rang a faint bell somewhere in the back of his mind, something in connection with the goddess. Is Hantei this girl's god? Husband-God, or Brother-God, maybe?

Yul nosed at the man's back, and he decided it didn't matter. Pointing to Hikari, "Roko-ghan, then himself, "Burning Sands." He cupped his hands, fingers pointed:

Then he mimed ocean waves with one hand. Finally, he brought his hands together, then spread them wide, as if showing off the size of something large.

"Yes. Shinjo-no-kami. Daughter of Amaterasu and Onnotangu, sister of Hantei-no-kami, who founded the empire."

She nodded, but had little hope he would really understand; and she in turn had little comprehension of what his gesturing was supposed to mean. Unless...

"Yes, big ocean between us and... where Shinjo went."

He grunted, she is in love with the sound of her own voice, she knows fully I don't understand a word.

This is getting us no where, and I have things to do. Khenbish indicated to himself and raised a hand to shade his eyes, looking about in an exaggerated manner. Bringing both hands over his head, he steepled his fingers to form a roof. Tapping his chest once more, he followed with two fingers pointing downwards, wiggling them back and forth in an alternating matter.

"Oh yes, I'm looking to acquire a house!"

Finally, someone who actually wants to help.

The man he'd spoken to last night, at least he managed a little merenaese, had said the 'explorers' might be staying a while. She is looking for somewhere to stay, too.

With a resigned sigh, I suppose it's no bother to let her follow me. He performed the 'looking' action again, then indicated back and forth between himself and the girl, expression questioning.

She nodded, then took out a couple of snacks from one of the statuettes at her side... which was actually a small container. One was offered to the man, and the other placed in her mouth.

Khenbish accepted the snack, popping it into his mouth without any obvious concern about what it might be. "Thank you." Pointing, he began making his way down the street, not heading anywhere in particular, but keeping an alert eye out for possibilities.

It was mostly sweet, but also hard and crunchy; with perhaps the faint remaining taste of salt.

As for Hikari, she followed along. She wasn't entirely certain that this side of the island was for her, but with a local helping her along she might figure out whether it was so or not. And it allowed her a chance to observe the gaijin as well. How they acted. How they reacted.

A thought popped into her head, and she sought to clarify.

"Ide Kenbishhh?"
