Yeah, they're the opposite of Obligation. You want them to go up. And then when the group gets a total duty score of 100, everyone drops to 0, and gain 1 contribution rank!

I wonder fi there are uses for duty points apart from boats or ambassadorship... Because Ambassadorship is a mystery, and boats are a bit hard for a landlocked clan.

A couple of other stations exists: Merchant Patron, Governor, Master Sensei, Warlord and Keeper of the Temple

Most of the applications are in an appendix in Emerald Empire. Commodore is newly made for this game. Ambassador is modified as a number of the features are for a feature we're not using this game (the court battle system).

The awesomeness of the commodore stuff made me tweak my character concept--actually, kinda gave the last nudge I needed to make the pieces fit into place. I'm very excited about this character.

Just a quick remark. Part of the premise of the game is that some PCs will claim the captaincies of the four big ships. They won't be fully designed, just large vessel+foreign design is what's given and can be won, the rest may come from your DPs. Please consider it before making mental attachments of going on your own ship. While some limited extension of the flotilla is possible, it'd be not so good for roleplaying during the voyage if people go too thin over various ships. I am sure we can work it out, just keep the above in mind.

The prizes are indeed calibrated for a little catch-up in departments returning characters had goodies aplenty the last game. I specifically do not distribute direct dice pool-affecting benefits for a pre-game event.
