Query for the miai. My highest-point disadvantage is Sworn Enemy at 4. Can I use a lower-point disadvantage for roleplay reasons, but keep the higher TN from my real highest-point disadvantage? "Your house got blown up by an asshole that one time," seems like less legitimate blackmail material than, "You maintained a live-in gaijin lesbian lover."

I think it's congruent body of knowledge about you. Your other 4-point Disad also fits in the picture. For fluff purposes, 'I am hard gay promiscuous pro gaijin who doesn't give a shit and makes enemies between meals" works.

What are Tsugiko and Yajinden's influence ratings?

Do I get, as of Day 1, Imperial Spouse? Does the 0.5 status gained from it make me into an NPC?

This is how it should be ruled, yes. It can be on your sheet, but effective once it happens.

Will it make me into a NPC or is the 4 status max just a guideline for creation?

The emphasis is: on character creation. During the game status can go up and the PC still remains viable. In fact Game 5 is likely to be a pretty high-status winter court so gradual position buildup of players is part of the design. IH is a five-chapter endeavour, and in chapters 4 and 5 I want the players to play central roles in shaping the future of the Empire.

I'd also imagine that, if for some reason your character manages to exceed the scope of a game, as IH progresses as Kannon has outlined, then you'd eventually come back into scope. So it's not an arbitrary limit of "I hit 4.5 Status, I lose this character forevers!" but for example if a character managed to become a central ambassador or negotiator and representative of the Empire or if someone murders their way to the top of the Imperial Navy then they may not be relevant to the next game but they won't stay that way.

Also to that end I'd also want to work with Kannon and that player to make sure that the character continues to grow and evolve rather than being frozen and locked so that their agendas may progress even if they aren't on screen for a specific game.

So, Tori is bringing a text representative of every great clan. Four of them are locked down, but two are not. I'd like permission for a couple classical texts to exist that aren't laid out in canon, but it makes sense for them to exist.

1: Foundations. Written by an early Kaiu daimyo, and expanded on by successors. One of the fundamental texts on the Kaiu philosophy of design, construction, engineering, and to a lesser extent fortification and defensive military tactics. (Might have already referenced this one IC. >.>)

2: Puzzles. Lady Agasha's alchemical research is a Dragon clan secret, but Lady Agasha's naturalism wasn't so narrow in scope, so I should think many of her less 'splodey writings would be cultural touchstones of Rokugan. Lady Agasha's view of the world as full of wonderful puzzles to be unraveled is near and dear to Tori's heart. I'm thinking this text is on the philosophy of Agasha naturalism, research, and discovery, rather than advanced scientific discovery.

I was wondering if I could use "The Raging Force" (Fire 1 from Core Rulebook) on not a Weapon/Armor. The description suggests that it doesn't have to be one of those things, just a material weapon, but the area of effect only lists those. "The Mending Forge" also describes material items and lists target as any 1 item, where the only difference seems to be in the extent of damage.

I personally don't mind this, just keep in mind the level of scale between Raging Forge at Fire 1 and Mending Forge at Fire 4. Raging Forge won't be sufficient if it's broken, in multiple pieces, etc. It can repair more than superficial damage or visual blemishes, but not much more than that.

I know at least this is a supported ruling in most other games, where Raging Forge can be used to repair damaged clothing and similar.

To add to that, in the beta rules being discussed kimono and robes each actually count as armour - giving a tiny reduction compared to being nude or a peasant in rags. Further justification perhaps! (Plus the whole canon storyline of samurai wearing kimono as it was cheap armour they could produce for everyone back when fighting the SL for the first time).

More specifically, would it restore a fire-damaged mirror?

What would the price tag be on some seed for Rokugani-native flowers that could probably survive in the general climate we're heading for, and would it be a Lore: Nature check to figure out which flowers they might be? Would that be keyed off of Earth or Air?

Given that you described the mirror as "Any design it might have had at one point is beyond recognition", it sounds like it has sustained more than minor damage so I would err towards saying you'll need the Rank 4 variant to make it like it once was.

Price would be based on how much you wanted to bring with you. If it was the equivalent of a seed packet or two of a common flower, 5 zeni. Price scales if you want a larger quantity or something more rare if you had something specific in mind. If you were really committed, perhaps two koku for a small seed library which could contain whatever common plants you wanted.

Given your skill in the matter, I feel comfortable saying you'd have a good idea what good candidates would be as far as not picking 'roses' or something else that dies if you look at it the wrong way. You are welcome to roll though and call raises if you wanted to represent hunting for seeds from a particular strain, part of Rokugan, etc. that would hardier than the norm.

I think this one got skipped. Sorry to be pushy, but I would appreciate the response while we're still in shopping range. It involves a project I'd appreciate getting others in on.

I am conducting fluff research whether there is no treatise of those Clans of this importance already. Hence I am no okaying the names and descriptions yet, but I can okay 'a Crab Book' and 'a Dragon Book'.

Understood, and thank you. Though the main point of note is that not choosing Niten is a deliberate decision to sculpt the overall image of Rokugan presented to visiting dignitaries in a less violent light, and my intention is to invite one of our Dragon representatives to bring a copy independently, so as to avoid insult.

I don't know of any major Crab books at all.
